ok, so if I'm crunching the numbers right it looks like we have between 12 and 13 million left in cap space to sign 5 players... It looks like its still possible to lock up Ehrhoff at a 5 million, leaving between 7 and 8 million to sign 4 players, correct?
The way i see it...
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - A (Laich-like)
Samuelsson - Malhotra - (Hansen (1.2))
B (Torres-type) - Lapierre (1) - C (Oreskovich 600K) / D (600K)
Bieksa, Hamhuis, Edler, Ballard, Rome, Tanev, E , F
$52.2 million committed on the above players. (15)
$12.1 mil in approx space prior to accounting Hodgson. Who should be till Raymond comes back.
Oreskovich and Hansen to follow shortly... 2 more players expected to be locked in for about 1.7mil (revised based on the qualifying offers and what Lapierre signed for).
Hodgson (1.7) up till Raymond returns .
Leaving about 4 spots to fill with about $8.7 mil.
2 more at around 600K- 'D' and 'F'.. and also leaving about 1 mil for cap room.
so 2 spots at around $6.5 'A' and 'E'.. They could go top 6 with it - 'A' Laich-like player, or go defense - 'E' - Ehrhoff-type.
Room for Salo as well with a little shuffle of the numbers.... in for 1.5 - 2 mil.
Lots of flexibility.... we are set up very good right now.
I liked him in the playoffs, but I am concerned about our team's reputation around the league, especially with officials.
There's a reason why we couldn't get a call in the Final, and guys like Lapierre are part of that reason.
What you mean Lappy getting 4 out of a NHL total of 38 diving penalties might make the refs look twice at us before giving us a PP? Funny thing, once Lappy showed up the whole team started diving like crazy.
Good contract, MG does it again. Our centre depth is some of the best we've ever had. I think he was one of our better forwards in the playoffs and I'm really happy to see him come back. At the very least I get to say Haters gonna hate more on the main boards as we continue to be the most despised team in the league.
I think people are going to see a much different Lapierre next season with much less antics. Especially in the regular season.
One of the main things I suspect that MG will say in his exit meeting is to commit to using his energy in the play rather than the scrums or on the bench.
The guy has a solid set of hands and is a bargain at 1m
Agreed. It sounds like MG regretted going to the media about the reffing before game 7 vs the hawks. He said he learned some things. I think the message to the players will be to play whistle to whistle. UNfortunate that they had to say this last year. Burrows got back in to the after whistle stuff again during the finals unfortunately.
