if mark stone makes this club next year, we will have had an absolutely disastrous FA period and draft, and our team will be in serious trouble.

No he's not, even though I am a fan lets get realistic here.

I could see him playing at WJC though, he was getting some buzz from last year's tournament.

From the descriptions this guy kinda sounds like Nick Foligno, only he's seen his CHL stats jump about 6 months younger than Foligno did.

I'll keep myself at cautiously optimistic. I strongly disagree with a lot of people here who say the skating isn't that big a deal. If you can't keep up with the play, you can't score no matter how good your shot is.

It's still a great pick, though because it sounds like if he manages to become an average NHL skater he'll be pretty darn good. He's a good boom/bust pick late in the draft.

Great job at providing a clear and detailed argument.

I haven't seen him play but if his skating really is a weak point I'd rather keep him down and refine his skills. For all the problems a player can have skating isn't that bad.

andreychuk played in a completely different NHL. he played with redlines, and in the clutch-and-grab NHL. today its all about skating and if you can't skate, you can't play.

Different kind of player. Stone doesn't really fight and hit like Neil.

Look in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

There should be a series of icons, one of them should be a keyboard. On mine it's the left-most one.

And may God forbid you should be stuck with a French keyboard.

But he has the size & toughness if he has too. Also you often hear that guys change their styles to stay in the NHL, Van Allen & Ruutu did both were goal scorers.

That's wicked news. Really hope he makes it. Playing for team Canada is a massive stage for a prospect.

As a Wheat King fan, I love Stone but he's got a lot of work to do to be any kind of NHLer. He's big enough, smart enough, and skilled enough to possibly develop into an impact player with time. Problem is, he can't skate. And I don't mean he's a bad skater. You take the worst skater in the NHL and I wouldn't be all that surprised if they could beat Stone in a race while going backwards. It's ugly.

But if he can turn himself into even close to an average skater, you could have a gooder.

Sounds like a job for Marc Power Skating Coach. Apparently his skating showed noticeable improvements from last year.
