Can someone clarify for me exactly what we have regarding LTIR with Drury I understand that money is not available until the last day of training camp. However lets say were at and even 63 million on the cap, do we have the luxury of having that extra 1.3 + Drury's 7.05? Or do you have to break the limit first then have his cap space open up and if it is open up does all of it have to be used or could you use only up to a limit of say 68.5 million?

kind of a random question but maybe someone knows the answer...

first are there limits to how much $$ you can give to a 35+ player as a bonus and criteria which those bonuses are based on?

and since there is no bonus cushion and those bonuses count toward the cap, what if a team uses those bonuses to get to the floor and then don't actually pay them out?

for example lets say florida signs prospal for a base salary of $2 mil. can they give him a $10 mil bonus for scoring 50 goals so he counts as $12 mil toward the floor? but knowing he'll never earn it they don't have to pay it?

you don't have to use all of the same. with drury on LTIR we can go over the cap by up to 7.05 mil. but we can also stay below the cap and not use it at all. or use all of it...

basically its as if drury is gone and he doesn't count. to avoid confusion, when he goes on LTIR remove him from the calculation and fit the rest of the team under the normal cap

Ok thanks, I wasn't concerned about fitting a full roster under 64.3 million just curious as to how the team can spend his 7.05 cap hit throughout the year. Now knowing that its basically there like a savings account if we need it I understand..Thanks for clearing that up for me..

Still nothing on the value of Kolarik's contract. Weise's deal is $605k. 25 days on the roster. We've had confirmation on the big 5 qualifiers, but not on any of the following: Stu Bickel, Chad Johnson, Pavel Valentenko, John Mitchell, Matt McCue, Tyson Dowzak, Justin Soryal, Devin DiDiomete, and Brodie Dupont. I wouldn't be surprised if Valentenko was the only guy we qualified out of that group. Probably Mitchell and Dupont too, but no confirmed news on any of those names yet. Current status:

Edited the chart on my last post to reflect. Valentenko, Bickel, McCue and Dowzak did not spend any time on the roster last year. Mitchell's contract was 1-way.

Why bring back Dupont? He's not even a decent 4th liner.

Depth. The guy got a recall last year, obviously. He's 24 and entering his 5th pro season... so I don't think he'll ever be an NHL player, but you never know. And plus, he's a good Hartford vet. Has value for that right there. His QO was $550,000... don't really see it as much of an issue.

AHL team needs its veterans and he could be a decent call-up for a few games on the 4th line. Same position Newbury was in last year, Dupont could be in this year.

Potentially hairy if W2, MZA and MDZ have great seasons next year, but nowhere near as hairy as this year. Wolski is looking for his 3rd deal, the other two for their 2nd.

I think they would try to sell high on a good Wolski season, and Zucc may or may not be back depending on how his season goes. Del Zotto won't be a problem I think, he'll probably get 750k or so higher than his current NHL salary.

It appears the Rangers qualified Johnson,Mitchell,Dupont and Bickel which gives the Rangers 39 contracts.

Quote:
Howlings has learned that John Mitchell, had just a terrific run with the Connecticut Whale after joining the organization at the deadline, will be announced as having signed his deal on Tuesday
Quote:
Brodie Dupont, who got his first taste of NHL action and will be entering his fifth year as a pro was also tendered by the Rangers.

Joining Dupont with a contract to sign is defenseman Stu Bickel. Both are expected to sign them shortly.

Goaltender Chad Johnson is possibly still in the mix for the Whale/Ranger as he too has been offered a contract.
http://howlings.net/2011/06/27/to-qu...ot-to-qualify/

Soryal and Didiomete weren't given QO's.

Dowzak and McCue weren't mentioned in the article but they probably weren't qualified.

Johnson carries a $112k summer cap hit. Mitchell spent 126 days on the NHL roster last season. Dupont will have a small summer cap.

How does Johnson's cap hit only equal $112k? His qualifier is 654,500. 40 days out of 186 on the roster is ~21.5% (used the actual number for the calc) and 21.5% of 654,500 is 140,753.

I'm not sure that Mitchell's QO was two-way. It's easy to assume that, but I'm assuming we'll get confirmation of it today when they are supposedly announcing their deal.

$113k summer cap number at $525,000 NHL minimum. The Rangers usually give more AHL money for players taking the minimum. Its bad enough Johnson was qualified but for him to carry a $140k summer cap number is obscene. He won't be on the Rangers. Even when the Rangers call him up due to an injury, they're afraid to use him. The Rangers would look for a more experienced guy if its a long term injury than play Johnson. In the minors,Johnson will be battling 3 other goalies for playing time. Mitchell is eligible for a two way. Toronto didn't give him a QO because they didn't want the arb case. He re-signed for $725k. One way. Another one way deal isn't good for both sides. The Rangers won't pay him big money to play in the AHL and Mitchell is stuck in the AHL with a 1 way contract. He would need to clear re-entry to play in the NHL making more $105,000 AHL.

We'll see. Right now, his summer cap hit is that high. And there's nothing obscene about a cap hit that differs by less than 30k.

Mitchell got a 2 way. $105K AHL. Rangers were more generous with Weise than they were with Sauer and some of the other group IIs over the years.

Why do you count John Mitchell against the cap? He wasn't on the roster. And shouldn't Johnson's cap hit be $182,796?

Mitchell played quite a few NHL games last season with the TML.

Don't think the extra 200k or so on the summer cap is going to stop us from whoever we are targeting.

Mitchell was on the Leafs roster. It still counts against ours.

Also... Johnson's cap hit. according to CapGeek

Quote:
Chad Johnson's qualifying offer is for $654,500.

Because his base salary of $595,000 — total salary of $680,000 minus signing bonus of $85,000 — is less than or equal to $660,000, it is increased by 10 percent for the purposes of his qualifying offer.
40days/186days=~0.215; 0.215*654,500=140,717.5

The extra dollars come from me not wanting to type out the rest of the days percentage.
