The only thing that is going to discontinue Wirtz' mismanagement of this franchise is the icy scythe of death. Then we have Peter Wirtz. I have faith and hope in Peter, but he is a Wirtz.

He will be here, 'Til Death do us part". Peter was born after Television was, that's why we think he'll be an upgrade.

Wirtz was born when Airplanes had 2 wings, Fire Engines where pulled by Horses and everyone listened to the Radio and Little Orphan Annie. Hawk fans can only hope that $ Bill Wirtz health fails him and Peter the Great takes over.

The Wirtz family will never sell the hawks as long as they own their liquor distributorship, United Center, Bismark concessions, and the surrounding land and parking, which all feed off the Hawks and the United Center.

They have too many interrelated businesses of which the Hawks are part of. Owning the liquor distributorship puts Wirtz in a unique situation where he pockets 100% of the money from beer and liquor sales, it is all profit. That is the big reason why he wont televise home games, he makes more money off ticket and concession sales than the peanuts he would get in tv revenue.

Its very short sighted thinking but he wont bend on this one.

Ownership doesn't matter now that the cap is in place.

Wirtz/Jacobs/Cuban/Detroits Pizza Man, it doesn't matter who your owner is now. Wirtz will spend around the 39 mil mark for years to come.

What matters is who he picks to run his team.

The only downside still with wirtz is no home games for the people who live in Chicago.

The "cheap owner" is no more.

Is there *any* way to see the Hawks on TV in Chicago? Digital cable? Satellite? Center Ice? I know some of these options are pricey. Are the 100% completely blacked out across all formats, or is there just no local cable deal?

Jeremy Jacobs has taken heat over the years here in Boston, but at least Bruins fans haven't suffered media-wise. Every game is on NESN, the team has a great radio signal(WBZ), and hockey notes, particularly those of Kevin Dupont, appear year-round in the papers. Even college hockey is on TV all the time here. How the league lets the Hawks' TV policy go on, in one of its supposedly critical markets, is beyond me. By the way, what is the Hawks' radio situation? All the way out here, I used to tune in Pat Foley and Dale Tallon, on AM-780 and AM-1000.

Ya, the road team playing at the UC gets to see their teams game on their network.

If in CHI, CentreIce will blackout home Hawk games, so no good there. Only if you have a satellite dish you can maneuver yourself to find the other teams feed can you catch a home game.

Some bars in the area will usually find the signal if they have a big enough crowd and nothing else to watch that night. Becoming harder to find though.

What you guys in chicago need to do is get a free to air reciever and a dish. There is no black out restrictions on those things no matter where you are because the chip is wide open.
