Aww, sad. Definitely will miss little Steve Sullivan.

Obviously his first game was awesome, but I remember most that Ottawa game where he had the natural hattrick in the second period. That was just a clinic that night.

Good luck wherever you go!

Thanks for all you did for us Sully!

Certainly wish sully the best and hope he returns to nashville when he finally hangs up the skates.

My question is, will he go anywhere for any amount of money or will he retire if he doesn't get an offer that suits him?

Would he really uproot his family just to go be a warm body on a team that needs to get to the cap floor?

I'll never forget that fateful night of his debut against the sharks and the following run he, Scott Walker, and the Preds went on in 2003-2004. All the best, Steve!

Sad day but it was going to happen. Sullivan is one of the all time greats in our franchise. He carried the team to our first playoff birth and was a stud for us until his recent injury problems. Hopefully he is back with the organization after he retires.

One of my favorite games of his (and ours ):

The goal around 1:50 was just a great team effort with a snipe by Sully:

Is Sully the best Pred forward ever (when considering a combination of total production as a Pred, peak individual seasons, and overall importance)?

Will miss the little guy.

That backdoor play was our bread and butter for a couple years.

Yeah, I think he is the best Pred forward ever, thus far

Do you think they'll put his number in the rafters?

I don't want to derail this thread with anything negative but talking about retiring his number or saying he was our grestest forward ever is a stretch. He had a great 6 weeks to get us to the playoffs, and 05-06 was as good a single year as any pred has had, but if he was a less likable guy we would be complaining about what we got for our 7.5 mil these last two years.

I wouldn't pay him more than the league minimum at this point in his career considering his injury problems over the last few years... and his frequency with getting injured has increased

Who is the best Predators forward then? I think he's legitimately in the discussion for a variety of reasons.

I personally go with Cliff Ronning. He averaged almost 62 pts per season (adjusted for games played in the season he was traded to LAK) during the organizations first 4 years. If you adjust for the deadpuck era and quality of teammates (Krivo, Kjellberg, etc.), it's the most impressive 4-year offensive run in our franchise.

depends on what qualities you value most.

you could make a case for Kariya(point per game average over two seasons), Arnott(107 goals in 4 seasons), Ronning, and yes, even Legwand(longevity, best combo of defense and offense)

I will forever have the date we traded for him tattooed on my arm... mainly because my first son was born that day.

We will miss you Sully!

Agreed. Any "best" discussion always depends on what qualities you value most. It's a subjective endeavor, after all. I prefer a mix of what you mentioned plus other aspects (defensive acumen, faceoffs, etc.) And yes, all of those forwards would be in consideration for top Predator.

Even Erat has to be considered in the same vein as Legwand. He has 7 consecutive +15g, +49pt seasons. He's basically been the only constant offensive force since our playoff run started in 2003/2004.

But back to the original discussion, Sullivan deserves to be mentioned in the conversation of best Predator forward ever. It's hardly a stretch.

I'll agree he deserves to be in the conversation but honestly he had one and a half great seasons, and was under contract for 6 seasons.

you cant honestly tell me that if Lombardi plays a year and a half on his 3 year deal and scores 17 and 10 goals that you will not feel that we got cheated?

Sully deserves all the admiration because he is such a really really good guy and he worked so hard to come back from his injury.

I have no problem calling him the most memorable predator, our most beloved predator, or the guy who best exemplifies the "Predator Way".

Agreed. He doesn't get any awards for longevity or sustainability. He really had three great seasons for the Preds though. The 03/04 season was abbreviated but he was arguably the offensive MVP for the team despite the limited time. And after the lockout, he had two straight 60 point seasons (I think the Preds have only had 11 in their history). But he's not the best.

PIT signs Steve Sullivan to a one-year, $1.5M deal.

Good luck in the windy city Stevey! That's a good fit for him.
