Just spend what you need to get a Cole or Langenbrunner, either short term or front loaded. Worst case you dump them after 1-2 years as their cap hit is high and salary is low.

People who are up in arms about a 32 year old with 38 points apparently include some who want a 37 year old with 31 points to replace him.

I guess in pursuit of cap space when the team already has some and there aren't many players worth giving it to this off-season.

The market for Wiz is getting a lot bigger now, Bieksa and now Pitkanen re-upped...

An already weak UFA class just keeps getting weaker and weaker.

Free agent frenzy should be a blast.

Once Ehrhoff and Richards sign, they should just stop the show.

Big home town discount. Which makes sense, from what I here Carolina is the only place in his career that he's felt comfortable. But if this is the kind of underpayment Carolina is looking for from their UFA's that explains why they haven't re-signed Cole and Jokinen.

TBH, the cheap masonry guys has been where Gauthier has done his best work. But I'm really curious to see what he does with 5+ million to throw at someone.

It's starting to look like there'll be no one to throw the money at though.

At this point, I wouldn't throw money at no one, except Erik Cole. I would overpay him for negating him the chance to play against us and inflate his stats.

There are a bunch of 3rd-line types I would overpay for on a one-year contract. Multi-year though, I don't see all that much.

At this point, given how little is out there right now, I think the best move is to re-up Wisniewski and sign quality 3rd liners or out bid Pittsburg by giving Jagr serious money for a single season. Unused cap space is useless and they guys out there are resigning with their teams.

One hour of one-on-one French lessons a week isn't really a big commitment.

It would pay a lot more dividends in Montreal than being stuck in Detroit.

Montreal women >>> Detroit women

Since the UFA crop for a Top 6 forward is thinning, IMO, Gauthier should try to trade for Jarome Iginla. He will provide the grit, toughness and heart in order for the Habs to get to the next level. Also, I would like Anthony Stewart and Konopka on this team.

To Montreal:
Jarome Ignila

To Calgary:
Danny Kristo
Yanik Weber
1st round 2012
2nd round 2013
4th round 2012

Firstly, everyone needs to get there heads out of their ***** about Gomez, Suggest an alternative that we can actually see as viable, especially given our cap space, Arpon Basu says it best there is no better alternative and we may as well hope he has a better year, I mean it can't be worse right?

realistically we need to add things to each group (forwards, Defenseman, Goalies) ,

number 1 Priority, more forward depth, our team was at its best last year when our three lines were rolling before the Pacioretty injury.

Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta
-Plekanec-Cammalleri
Kostitsyn-Eller-

These lines were responsible for a large spike in goal output. It caused Kostitsyn and Eller to develop Chemistry and by putting kostitsyn on the third line it caused him to be hidden from the better defenseman. On top of this Desharnais also emerged this year as a legitimate scoring threat, but I think we all agree he will eventually need to switch to a winger so many see him sliding into a position as the third lines compliment. Options to sliding in next to plekanec and Cammalleri include, Upshall, Gagne, Cole, and other forwards who will put up 40-50 points, we don't need more then that.

That leaves us with

Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Free agent-Plekanec-Cammalleri
Kostitsyn-Eller-Desharnais

Now we also have Ryan White, Mathieu Darche, and Travis Moen, Leaving a hole in the center ice position on the fourth line. We all hear about how we need more grit and a fourth liner with grit to play between Ryan white Travis moen and Mathieu Darche will help, especially since Darche can insulate us from Injuries to a lesser extent.

On defense we Have

Markov-Gorges
Subban-Gill
Emelin-Spacek
Weber-Diaz

I'm not opposed to signing Hamrlik, as long as he plays with Emelin on the third pairing, we need one more defenseman for perfect depth that we can rely on in case of massive injuries during the year. Otherwise a solid #5 or 6 is all we need

For goalies I'd actually prefer to spend 2m and get a backup capable of playing 25 games so price isn't exhausted come playoffs

My 2 cents
