Great work! That's the thing with big dmen: there really aren't many who can play at a very high level, i.e. shut down opposing 1st lines and put up points themselves, yet still maintain the big hitting and roughing deterrent. It's more rare than a middling offensive dman, those seem to come up much more frequently in the drafts. That's one of the reasons I really liked this pick, if the scouting staff thought he had the chance to climb that chart and it pays off, this could be a huge part of the Rangers future.

Yes, he then left the Islanders and the Sens actually taught him how to skate. These things take time.

I've been a big fan of this kid's style. I'm also very interested to see if McIlrath puts him in his place. I want to see if these two clash in camp. After all, that's McIlrath's job.

You often mess up other joints in the leg by putting off the surgery. You basically make the whole thing worse. You can even mess up the other side. It's not that uncommon.

That said, he's a cheaper alternative then some of those guys who are still on the team and should be considered to move first because he maintains better cap flexibility and his game may still improve. A 25 year old defenseman with only 3 seasons under his belt, has room to improve and very well could.

I'm high on options available in Hartford and we've got two right handed defenders in Sauer and Sangs who I wouldn't mind seeing play which could make Girardi expendable.

This defense has a long way to go before they're sold, but they're young and I'm not willing to give up on the younger guys yet.

Now that we've got younger guys up like McD, Sauer, and now Erixon. I believe we should move him out for a high powered winger, but that's for another thread.

And here's the quote I was referring to:

I've PMed you my mailing address for my hand-written apology.
What's your point? He was garbage then and was costing the team games. I am glad he overcame that, because he should have been gone and he's lucky he got his game going again after sucking so terribly for over half a season. Am I glad Sather kept him? Sure. Do I stand by my comments at the time? Absolutely.

He was beyond brutal. I would have rather had Ulanov or Karpa over him at the time.

I thought about that but I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that Nashville fans were saying Suter was the more reliable d-man and Weber was a more offensive type of guy. I think I'm fine with the current lineup. Simpler is probably for the better. I didn't use Scuderi or Erskine because (at least to me) they aren't as recognizable. I have no clue what those two look like.

The point is showing patience with defensemen is necessary.

And I personally don't care if you've changed your mind or not. I was expanding on offdacrossbar's post, it wasn't about trying to call you or anyone else out.

Great to see McIlrath is doing well by the way. I'd imagine Torts is falling in love with Hagelin already as well.

Just keep my name in there, then. Makes it look like you are trying to take a bit of a shot at me with that.

And showing patience is necessary to an extent. When one ***** the bed for a full half of a season two years straight, sometimes something needs to be done abou tit.

Yeah -- hindsight is 20/20, and I will admit that I myself was pretty angered at his play. I blatantly remember a horrific turnover he had against the Penguins, where he threw it straight up the slot, Gonchar intercepted it, and made a pass to Crosby who tipped it in.

Well, in that thread I said the he's a very good third pairing defenseman, adequate second pair guy. I would now amend that to say he's a very good second pairing player, and serviceable on the top pair.

I don't think he's truly a first pairing defenseman. He has found fantastic chemistry with Staal, and together, the two play as a legitimate shutdown top pair. Without Staal (or another great defenseman with whom he has equally fantastic chemistry), I think he'd be in over his head.

I hope he kicks arse right now cause I honestly think he could take a LW spot. I still think Feds will be signed but if not I think Hagelin can steal a spot

Love the skates that Hagelin wears... Don't see too many players in the NHL deviating from the all black skates these days.
