Kaberle might test the market

DarrenDreger
Kaberle among the noteable free agents on Friday. Doesn't rule out the Bruins from signing him...if the market isn't as strong as expected.

Well, see you later, alligator...

COnsidering that most of the fans here want to lowball him by as much as 2-2.5M from his true market value (which could easily be as high as 4Y 4.5per)? Utter no brainer.

There's no reason Kaberle shouldn't come in really close to Pitkanen's deal, especially considering Pitkanen took a discount.

It's gonna be interesting to see how much he will get. His stock dropped significantly during the playoffs. A lot of observers noticed that Kaberle was playing on the 3rd pairing...

Signs with Detroit for 5-6 M, scores 60 points next year, and the posts about needing a PMD will start showing up in October.

This is a shocking development. Nobody could have predicted this.

I wonder what was Chiarelli's offer?

My guess is that it was a short contract, and he wants / needs a retirement contract at this point in his career. Probably $3m range, since reports are they wanted him back at a discount.

...

Color me not broken up about this.

I actually like Kaberle quite a bit. But he didn't play up to my expectations here and I think the team needs a certain amount of turnover in order to repeat success.

I hope Kabs lands somewhere comfy.

I wonder what the Pitkanen signing does to his value? I think if he's looking for a pay day than his only choice will be to test the ufa market. There isn't much out there so teams may overpay to get him.

Good, I'd rather Chia made an offer to Wiz instead anyway.

I really do not care if the walks. He had the chance to get a cup here and now wants a big payday, something the Bruins hopefully won't give him.

Looks like we're down to keeping Kabs. Wiz or Ehroff. Ya know Ehroff will want about 6m. Not going there. Probably gonna take 3yr/12m to keep Kabs. Unless you think you can get Wiz. Looks like keeping Kaberle is our best option. Needs to get his butt in shape. And, play a RH shot at the point opposite him. Hello, Tyler Seguin.

If you didn't like Kaberle in a Bruins uniform, you are going to hate what Wisneiwski would bring in a Bruins uniform. Especially for the salary he is going to command.

I'd literally rather not sign a Kaberle replacement, than to sign him.

Normally I'd agree that his stock tumbled, but after seeing what Bieksa pulled down, I'm not so sure it will matter how he played...

I know Kaberle won a cup here but that does not mean he played well and it does not mean he should be a Bruin next year.

I think he's going to want between $20M-$25M... Regardless of the length of the contract.

His true market value is what teams are willing to pay for him. If no one offers him $4-4.5M, then his true market value is not $4-4.5M. If some lame brain GM comes along and offers him $5M for 4 years, but no one else's offer even comes close, is that his true market value (a la Luongo's true market value) or is that an aberration?

Waz is a decent D-man but unless I`ve missed something, there is no way he should be signed for big money. He plays a much more engaged physical game, not that he`s a bruiser by any stretch. Regardless of whether Kabby played in the 5/6th spot, he`s got a ring and experience and someone will pay him.

I don`t have any issues with Waz, one of the few Habs I actually could stomach, not nearly enough time with that team to inherit hatred from this fan. Rather him than Kabby but not for big money. The guys never posted more than 30pts in a season, hardly screams huge pay cheque, yet people out there seem to think he`s some offensive dynamo.

I like him better than Kabby, doesn`t say much, not many I like worse than Kabby
