Skate of the Union

I've seen this mentioned a few times and being new to the Preds I was just wondering what exactly is it?

It's basically a Press conference for the public to get everyone excited for the season. There's often a used equipment sale involved. Poile, the owners, etc. talk for awhile, then there is some big announcement. last year it was Weber as captain, this year the home jerseys. It's basically just a fun time to get pumped for the year.

A pretty stellar used equipment sale
If a player has won an award, they would be there for photos (Masterton, Hobey Baker)
Limited autographs from draft picks or a player or two (varies from year to year)

And a pretty honest Q&A session from the staff regarding the team, etc..

Last year's focus was giving Shea the "C". This year it's the new jersey unveiling.

I Believe that Skate of the Union is scheduled for July 13th, when do we the season ticket holder get our free jerseys?

I wouldn't expect to see them until September at the earliest for 2/20 STHs

Does anyone else feel like they should either let full season ticket holders in a little early to the used equipment sale or have a seperate sale and only invite full season ticket holders.

Dallas did a pre-sale for STH at their equipment sale. It's good for the STH base, not so good for the rest of the fans. The way the Stars did it, employees of the team and STH could go on Thursday .... from reports I've seen by the time the first group of non-STH got in the door Friday morning, a lot of the good stuff was gone.

It's a balancing act between perks for STH while still giving the rest of the fans a shot at anything decent.

I agree with you, as season ticket holders do make a large commitment to the team, but I would be happy with 30 minutes early as we need to leave some quality items for those who dont have season ticket plans. This would make the season ticket holders happy while still allowing for the growth of hockey in our area by having the sale of quality items at a discount price. However, I also question how many us need Shea Webers S19 with that amount of flex, those are simply collectors items and should be for the STHs.

Skate of the Union Agenda: Equipment sale, player autographs, new home jersey unveiling, questions about return of radulov, and just added...every fan gets to smack front office administrators for the newly-created contract disaster.

So only STH should have access to collector's items?

As a former partial STH, I fully understand the logic of perks for committing a large chunk of cash to the team, however there is a difference between providing perks and screwing over the larger percentage of the fanbase. The meet the team party, discounts, first access to post season and other events at the arena, 150 minutes advance access to the equipment sale, etc are legitimate perks .... saying that a Weber stick should be for STH is nothing but pure arrogance.

No I never said that, and I just said early and apparently we got our wish with 2 and a half hours, when all I wanted was half an hour. You also used the word screwed, which means you feel everyone should be entitled to getting these items, which nobody is. The equipment will most likely be used for one of two reason, to collect or to play. I am not saying that the general public should not be allowed to buy these items, just give the season ticket holders that are prudent in showing up 30 minutes early the chance to get the items first, I think 2.5 hours is a little much.

Actually, you did say that ... "those are simply collectors items and should be for the STHs." Nice restatement to a much more reasonable perspective.

Cogan was just on the zone and talked about Shea contract was in the works, but nothing imminent. So I really don't think anything earthshaking is coming today.

Wouldnt miss it.

I am fully expecting the jersey to be the only announcement.

Over or under is at 15 combined uses of "solid core", "develop from within", and "team scoring"

I'm going to try to make it down for the SkOTU address itself. I get out of class at 3:10, but I've been having a bit of a car issue that I have yet to figure out so I guess it's a matter of whether or not I can address that first. I don't really feel like having to nurse the thing all the way to the arena from Murfreesboro. Hopefully it's something simple.
