But in all seriousness, I wouldn't doubt Wiz is now worth 5.5M on the open market over a 5-6 year span. The only places I see him accepting significantly less is to return home to Detroit or maybe to stay here.

It's looking more and more like a blockbuster trade, rather than a UFA signing. I don't know if this is a fair trade, but props for bringing up this option.

Habs will regret not bringing Wiz back (assuming that there is a chance he would want to come back) unless he signs for something ridiculous. Gaining Markov, losing Wiz, and maybe signing some depth guy isn't going to make this team a true contender.

But again, I must admit that there isn't much out there to improve the team. So for this reason I think bringing back Wiz is the best move MTL can make on UFA day. Should be interesting to see PG's plan.

Simon Gagne
Chris Higgins
Michal Handzus
Michael Ryder
Tomas Fleishmann
Ville Leino
Jason Arnott

Bottom 6 players:
Maxime Talbot
Brad Winchester
Zenon Kenopka

Ben Eager
Danny Carcillo
Anthony Stewart
Arron Asham
Mike Rupp

Habs might have to go through the trade route in order to fill their needs.
It would be great to see Habs get a player like R.J. Umberger from Columbus and Ryan Malone from TB.
It just makes Palushaj the most logical candidate at the moment..

With picking getting slimmer for UFA and Tampa having all sorts of problem signing Stamkos. They need to create cap space. Would you consider Malone for a couple of minor leaguers and draft pick. They wouldn t want money coming back.

Maybe. I think this is turning out to be one of teh most pathetic UFA seasons in recent memory. There is almost nothing to go after, except maybe Upshall and Cole. Other than these players, I do not see any forwards who fit the needs of our club.

I would go after Raffi Torres and Anthony Stewart if I was PG. Both are gritty players and exactly what we need. Stewart played his first season in the NHL and scored 14 goals. He is from Montreal.

I thought the knock on Stewart was a LACK OF GRIT, that's why a guy with his size and skill hadn't made the NHL full time until last year?

Ville Leino reminds me of Pouliout too much, similar skating style. I wouldn't sign him unless it's something under $2m.

Also, if we trade for Malone, no need to give them draft picks, throw some semi-useless AHLers at them and we do them a favour freeing up cap space.

I feel once again the habs will finnish empty handed once again teams do all they can to keep their assets others not so much.. i really start to wonder if our team will be upgraded or kept as is minus the wiz and pouliot..

The free agency crop is getting weaker and weaker as the days go by..

You would give Barker a shot? (Just curious, not criticizing you)

I don't know what happened to Barker but he has been brutal the last two years, barely even a top 6 defensemen. Sad. I doubt he gets picked up by anyone other than Florida.

I would 'cause I just refuse to believe he's that bad....but I know he was. Just saying, instead of just continuously letting guys go for nothing, you have to find a way to get something and disspointments for dissapointments can work . Problem is that Minny would have never taken him back...unless they reunite him with Lats and then they all become 30-goal scorer....great story that would be...

Going back to Barker, purely incredible that a guy who I was so sure was one of the safest pick ever, would fail like that. I knew he would not have been an offensive d-man, but a solid defensive d-man with tons of leadership would have been my worst prediction...geez....So, I would have given him a chance....at best, he somewhat becomes a AHL'er....

I'm not sure, it wouldn't be something that I would jump all over but would consider it. He didn't have a good year, and he still got 4 years left on his deal at a 4.5mil cap hit. He is also another LW and the Habs need a RW. Does he play both wings? He is a LH shot and MTL needs some RH shots for some balance up front.

If the Lightning indeed sign Stamkos, then Malone is as good as gone.

The Habs need to be all over this. "Montreal south" with Boucher and company would love some of our young prospects in return. Boucher would want the likes of Weber, Carle, White, etc. to name a few.

Malone is EXACTLY what is needed for our top 6. The man produces; he hits, goes to the net, and will stand up for teammates and oh yeah HE SCORES. His current deal is for four more years at $4.5 million per.

Eklund has stated that Malone has refused to be traded to a number of teams - is Montreal one of them? Let's pray not................

You would think that because UFA will really be poor. Lots of UFA signed today, and probably more tomorrow. That moving Spachek to team needing to fill cap space should be possible now.

Call me crazy but i seriously think that Jussi Jokinen is Montreal bound. he is the type of player Martin loves can play on the pk pp can backcheck and has decent hands. He would be the best winger for our first line because Cole is aging and Upshall isn't a first liner. Jokinen is more of a second liner but he has great speed and can actually make a good pass.

He might be the sleeper of the UFA crop because his last two season were pretty good and nobody seems to talk about him.

Check out Jussi Jokinen sign in Montreal at 4 millions 5 years. That's my call.

Still can't believe how Jokinen exploded this year. You guys aren't afraid he'd be a one year wonder?

I remember coming out of the lockout and this guy was the premier shootout scorer, actually he was pretty much just a shootout specialist.

He had a better season previously when he scored 30 on Staal's line.

make that two year wonder. he had 30 goals (65 pts) two years ago, and 52 points last year.
