If we sign Stamkos our picks will likely be late first round so odds of getting a top NHLer be slim. Recent years jury still out on the picks, I went back from '04 to '07 draft and took the 25th pick to see caliber of players. Rob Schremp, Andrew Coligno, Patrick Berglund and Patrick White be the 4 draftees as compensation for signing Stamkos

i would do it in a heartbeat. assuming other teams try, we should be in on it too. **** this 'not our philosophy'. it's about winning. it's only about winning and being pro-active.

If we throw money at Stamkos, next year Price is RFA too.

TB has no goalie for the future...

Theyll do the same.

20-20-20-10-5-2.5-1.25=79.5M=11.35 Scap

It is all about cash flow and financial value (See PV and FV in Excel).

Also you can have a NTC for the first 5 years.
Then you trade him after...

Some teams will be interested to trade a first round and paying him 2M per year while getting a SCap of 11.35M.
I am sure some teams with less budget might be interested.
20% is the max for the cap hit.

Its problably the same for real money.

So I dont think you could offer 20M for 1 year even if the cap hit is 20% and less.

I think the league wouldnt let that deal happen

I definitely offer him a 12 year 120m dollar deal. Do something Bold and Screw over Tampa either financially or by taking stamkos away. They raided our front offices and coaches in hamilton. Fair game.

Edit: how about 40-20-10-5-2.5-1.25-.7... Does TBL have 40M in cash?
First, the league won't allow you to pay 40M$ in one year. Second, I doubt Molson would want that.

Yikes! Even if you think you're one player away from a serious cup run, 4 firsts is a deep pit of quicksand that could take for ever to get out of.

I don't know if you're being glib about being able to trade that kind of a contract for a player as damaged and washed up as Vinny now is JUST when it's about to start.
Ah ha!

Vinny rears his head again

Never fail at this time of year.

Sign Price before July 1st then.

Isn't that how it works?

How long has this been going? Since 2002 or 2003?

TBL made some money but are certainly not able to generate this ind of money.
As for Vinick, he is a businessman and I am not sure adding another xxM next year in the concession will make him so happy!

What I had in mind.

They could offersheet some of our good RFA (Price, Subban) so we matches but always overpay a little bit. At the end, we dont have any money for other good players or UFA.

Yeah but with big RFA as Price, Stamkos, Doughty, usually teams want to sign them longterm and its tough to get a deal throught before July 1s.

You can also add Dubinsky, Weber, Parise...

This is a huge understatement. With Stamkos on this team we're cup contenders for the next decade at least. Imagine a core of Stamkos, Cammalleri, Plekanec, Pacioretty, AK, Subban, Markov, Price.

Can anyone come up with a legit list of about 5 or 6 teams that have the cap space and desire or need to acquire Gomez?

Cap floor teams will no doubt head this list. what are the top destinations?

Islanders, Phoenix, Colorado, Florida ... and I am missing one.

I didn't come up with the list, I read it somewhere, there were 5 teams though on the article I read ..

The Jets have a lot of cap space, was it the 5th team?

Montreal doesn't have a capable second line center if they deal Gomez, and the UFA market is not pretty. I would rather they hold him, re-sign Price, Subban and Eller(once healthy) to long-term deals and solidify the core of the team for the next 5 years. Can always deal him July 1, 2012 when his cap hit is more than cash paid out. You will get something of value for him then, and if he gets his game back on track, maybe more than is realized.

this article stated there are 6 teams under the cap floor but doesn't name them all.

Also Gomez has a limited NTC. He picks 3 teams he can't get traded to. Winnipeg and Edmonton are probably on the list.

Offer sheets is what drives the market up! There is just something wrong with this rule.
