Here's one way to look at it: Eklund isn't wrong. I'm sure a lot of teams are interested in Dustin Brown. You could say that Leafs interested in Crosy... Leafs interested in Staal (all of them)... Leafs interested in Ovechkin....
Brown is a huge part of that team and it would take a lot to pry him away from LA.
Who wouldn't want Brown? But Richards COULD make Brown expendable. I highly doubt they would ever trade Brown, but you never know.
Why would Richards make Brown expendable?
Brown is a winger, Richards is a center. The Kings have 3 top 6 wingers in Brown, Williams, and Penner. That makes them short one top 6 winger as it is. Williams gets injured frequently and Penner has 1 year left on his contract.
Meanwhile Brown is loyal to the organization, loves living in LA, is very responsible in the community, and has personally set up or is involved with quite a few community and charity events like building playgrounds and working at Children's Hospital LA. He's got 3 years left on a cap-friendly contract. Those are all things any organization loves.
Could Brown be moved? Anyone could be moved. But top 6 wingers is an area where the Kings are short players as it is. Unless they're getting an upgrade, moving him wouldn't make a hell of a lot of sense.
According to Eklund, the Leafs are negotiating for anyone and everyone in the league and I'm still waiting for that damn blockbuster deal he said would happen. Bigger than the Flyers trade? Yeah okay buddy.
