Class act! If he's retiring, good luck! If he's still got something to give, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Ducks uniform!

Drury wouldn't be a bad fit for the Ducks at all IMO. That's not a bad guess as to where he could end up. The Ducks need a bottom 6 center. Makes sense.

We criticised him a lot on the NYR board, but he fought for the team game in and game out. Not like Gomez. Best of luck to him in the future.

I would love him on the flyers if he can still play. Would be an awesome fourth liner for us.

Exactly. Drury gave everything he could, but he's a small guy who played VERY hard and physical, in the corners, in front of the net and on the PK. That eventually wore him down to the point that he is not the same player. Now on a 4th line where he doesn't have to play that kamikaze style, he could be a real good vet and would probably chip in 10-15 goals (just not on the Rangers, we don't need no stinkin' vets).

I was thinking the same thing.

Would a team like Florida who is in rebuild mode, and trying to get to the cap floor, take a flyer on a veteran like Drury? What do they have to lose?

Exactly. The Rangers scored their goals a lot like the Bruins minus Krejci - smash, banged, swatted into the net right around the crease. They didn't have that offensive creativity that a disher like Richards can provide and I think it took its toll on a guy like Gaborik. Players like Dubinsky and Callahan can play that bang it in style but skill snipers like Gaborik were too easily neutralized without someone able to get him the puck in a way that's not predictable.

Anyway, back on topic, IF Drury is really healthy, he could be a 4th liner that can score - I wouldn't use him on the PK b/c he'll get hurt and be out.

A knee that won't allow him to play?

I am confused. The rangers could not buy him out because he was injured According to brooks. Yet he is being bought out while he is injured. Not only that but in order to be bought out don't you need to be waived first? I think so and that never happened.

That report about his injury was something that I'm sure was discussed by the team and Drury. Even if he was injured, its the players decision whether or not to file the paperwork.

And Drury's contract had a NMC. He had the right tot refuse waivers and skip straight to the buyout.

I don't think it's just a knee problem. Chris was in decline in 09-10 and Torts even shuffled him to the 4th line for a spell. He has a serious problem getting up the ice with the puck and for the life of me I couldn't under why neither Renney when he was coach or Tortorella ever put him on left wing where his skating wouldn't be such an issue and where he could play to his strengths--finding seams in defenses to get off quick shots in close instead the Rangers played to his weaknesses--his mediocre puck distribution and lack of speed.

At this stage I think it's all but over for him as a player. He only played around 25 regular season games last year but over 20 of them were horrible. He was getting bypassed by injury callups like Kris Newbury and Chad Kolarik. In the playoffs he got the least amount of average ice time by all the forwards.

Drury has more heart and class than Gomez ever did.

Wait... The Rangers can afford Richards now?

(good luck Drury. You never deserved the way the last two years have gone)

Great news, hopefully this means Brad Richards is a lock. IMO for the next 4 years the Rangers are very serious cup contenders with the addition of Brad Richards along with the growing core who will hit their primes as well as a top 3 goalie who is the most consistent goalie in the nhl year in and year out.

What has happened to Drury anyway? I haven't followed him in recent years but his play in his contract year gave him his $7M contract so he was solid then (although $7M was a drastic overpayment even at that time). What is so bad about his game now that he doesn't even get a look over guys that were AHL call-ups?

The Rangers will certainly be a very entertaining team to watch. Lots of great young players that are only going to mature and get better and a great goaltender that makes Vancouver fans very jealous... Looking forward to seeing how they do next year!

You won't see an extra 40 team goals because of Richard's presence because the time he's on the ice (1st line minutes and #1PP) are very valuable minutes taken from somebody else's ice time. He'll be a massive help, don't get me wrong, but 40 goals is bad math.

Does he really fix them or just make them again? The guy is like the Mike Milbury that goes somewhat unnoticed.

The summer of Dru-Mez, what a ****ing disaster that turned out to be.

I still smile at Gomer making that kind of cash.
