Florida Panthers "re-sign" Tomas Kopecky (4 yrs, $3M cap hit)

RealKyper Nick Kypreos
Another #NHL jackpot winner in the state Florida. #Panthers who acquired Tomas Kopecky for a draft pick agrees to a 4 year/ 12M deal.

EDIT : 15-27-42 -13 = 3M per for 4 years? Really? Cole is now worth 4M+.

Dale Tallon: never signed a player he didn't overpay.

Wow, that IS overpayment. Wonder if they will ever be made to regret overpaying players to reach cap floors down the line.

Either way, he makes their team stronger and Campbell has a golf buddy

I suppose that's one strategy for reaching the cap floor.

its not that bad of an overpayment... id say its around $0.5 mil too much per year, which is easily managable.

This isn't an overpayment with a 64.3 million dollar cap.

With a 21 man roster 64.3/21 = 3.06

3.06 million is now the AVERAGE NHL player salary. Kopecky actually makes less than the average and he had 42 points last year with Chicago which is decent production for him. I have a feeling we are going to see some crazy contracts come July 1st when GM's start getting desperate.

The problem is that Tallon overpays for almost every player so those "easily manageable overpayments" begin to add up and cripple the team.

If he falls back down to earth it's extreme overpayment. If he keeps up the good work it's fair. Better deal than people are leading on but not the best deal either.
