The NHLPA is investigating the Nashville Predators in regard to the club making a mistake with their qualifying offers. Stay tuned

Obviously the big name there is Weber. Wonder if it'll be like Chicago where they'll have to overpay to lock them up for fear of them pushing their rights to become UFAs.

I don't think they need to qualify Weber since the team elected for arbitration.

It's a legitimate question, not really a "reach."

While that's a relief, we CANNOT afford to lose Spaling, Halischuk or Kostitsyn, especially due to some clerical error.

I believe you still need to qualify a player before filing for arbitration. But from Kypreos' tweet, it doesn't seem like the problem is with Weber.

Perhaps they (attempted to) qualify their players at two different times. They successfully qualified Weber right before filing for arbitration, and then somehow failed to qualify O'Reilly, Spaling, Halischuk and Kostitsyn at a later time.

.
Eklund had reported this the day of qualifying, as much as people blast him, he was days ahead of the rest of them.

no we didn't. cellblock303 thought we might have from a conversation with Poile. and it's not from the NHL, but it's from a couple of credible sources.

Incompetence by management. Plain and simple. Inexcusable for this to happen.

If the investigation turns up that Nashville did indeed miss a deadline or fail to adhere to procedure, yes, they will be all be UFA's as if they weren't qualified.

Same thing happened in Chicago, though Dale Tallon hauled ass and re-signed all of the players (granted, overpaid them all).

Pretty much. If the QA's aren't accepted or weren't made, you will have 2 days to sign them to contracts before July 1st. The Preds most likely have to overpay them because the players will have all the leverage.

Eh, Shea Weber isn't qualified since he's going to arbitration, so I guess that's lucky.
