With a 21 man roster 64.3/21 = 3.06

3.06 million is now the AVERAGE NHL player salary
Kopecky is not you average player. He is completely useless if not paired with really good players. How much a player like Cole should now ask for? 6-7M? He is at least two times better.

I feel another lockout is foreseeable. Doubt owners like spending money just to reach the floor. We 're now back to 04 with all this disparity among teams.

3.06 million is now the AVERAGE NHL player salary. Kopecky actually makes less than the average and he had 42 points last year with Chicago which is decent production for him. I have a feeling we are going to see some crazy contracts come July 1st when GM's start getting desperate.
This seems pretty much spot on. Although I would suggest it could be a slight overpayment but I guess that can be cancelled out by the fact Florida isn't a prime destination for players so a bit extra money will be needed to persuade them to sign/join until our performances are enough to attract them too.

Fail Dale strikes again

I'm happy for Kopy. But no team should offer him more 2.0

If you have the cap space you can overpay for one year, maybe even two, but four???

This is another perfect example of why Dale Tallon got fired as GM of the Blackhawks...

I've watched nearly every game Kopy has played over the past 2 seasons. This contract literally leaves me speechless.

Bad thinking IMO. Florida not looking to reach that salary cap. Therefore, your maths should be 48,3/22 = 2,2m...he is worth at best 2M per. The funny thing is that he traded for his right and then overpays him that much. He could have waited till July 1st, signed him to that ridiculous contract and kept his draft pick.

Ya, that 7th round draft pick is really a breaking point. Will probably be the next Gretzky

Sather called and gave him good advice: Waive Kopecky to the AHL now and save yourself the aggravation of waiting to see if he pans out. In the alternative, what's his cap hit after a buyout?

i think it comes from their lack oh hockey knowledge.

really, 1.2 million is a lot for a guy who had a career high 15 goals, never mind 3 million.

Wasn't Kopecky playing with Hossa and Sharp?

That seems like a steep steep price to me.

Thomas Kopecky is a 15 to 20 point player who had a huge year going into UFA status on a good Hawks teams.

This is a terrible deal.

Man I was kind of hoping the wings could've brought him back and got rid of Hudler. I swear whenever the wings played chicago last year it seemed like Kopy was behind or scored everytime on us. Good for him tho, better weather than here or chicago lol

Cap floor signing by a bad team. Bad teams need to overpay for players. He is better than Olesz and that is who he is replacing. He makes the Panthers better and that is what matters to them at this stage.

I heard it was $5M... must be my total lack of hockey knowledge due to my geographic location, mighty Pens fan.
