VA is pretty funny, you can go from the center of modern civilization to the 1920s by driving 30 minutes.
It's not that long of a trip.

I sort of averaged it out. In Roanoke, it's about 5 minutes if the lights are on your side. In DC it takes much longer. If you're in Grundy, then you've probably screwed up somewhere in life.

One of the major things I miss now that I live on the wrong side of the state...out here it's all Sheetz or Get Go, which is the gas station/convenience store arm of Giant Eagle grocery stores. Get Go isn't so bad, OK hoagies and breakfast sandwiches available all day.

But Sheetz sucks. Usually I'm between Pittsburgh and State College on route 22 when I end up in one. Whenever I enter I become keanly aware that I am the coolest person in that store at that time, because I am not wearing camo. Also, I once was hungry/stupid enough to get a cheeseburger there...oh man.

They've got the "I live in a strip mine!" vibe down perfectly.

They also have a seemingly high percentage of registered sex offenders.

edit: neat fact: "Grundy" is very close to the Old English word for "Hell"

To compare, .0004% of Fairfax County's population is a sex offender. Grundy's is a solid 1%.

If anyplace is Deliverance, it's Grundy.

I hear their Chinese Buffet is pretty good though.

Just got back from a 15 minute journey up Route 1 to Wawa in College Park, MD.

Score:

Two Hoagie Fest Shortis (one Italian, one Turkey)
Four Big Jugs of Wawa Peach Iced Tea
Big Bag of Lays
One 10" SteakEgg and Cheese (for Breakfast tomorrow)
Two Pretzels
Full Tank of Gas ($3.40/gallon)

Agreed! Best mac & cheese anywhere. Also you must try their sausage gravy & biscuits, not every wawa has it only the really busy ones.
Side note- Primos is way over rated. It beats wawa by a a good bit but we're comparing sheetz to wawa. Ever get a meatball hoagie at sheetz? ******* nasty! Wawa meatball blows it away. Oh, and you can't get a paper at Sheetz unless you want the Reading Eagle! That place sucks, Wawa rules.

Usually when I go to Wawa now it's either for the hot bowls or chicken salad subs. Love them both. But ******* I miss having a burger/breakfast sandwich at 2 in the morning (e.g. Sheetz).

Anyone who **** talks Sheetz has never made a drunken trip there. Their onion rings and appetizer sampler are straight orgasmic when you're hammered.

I know it's not really Wawa, but it's the only place I know that does it, if you go to the Sub shop part of Wegmans, I highly recommend a bacon cheeseburger sub (wheat bread), with mayo, ketchup and pepperjack cheese. A-****ing-mazing.

But seriously, if you want just an amazing Italian hoagie, go for Wawa.

True. I used to work in Hatfield about a mile from Rosenberger's (it was the only upside to the job) I used to make regular deliveries of chocolate milk in bottles and iced tea back to my brother-in-law on Long Island.

I have found no better chocolate milk than the one by Rosenberger's. Seriously, their regular (non-low-fat) chocolate milk is so ****ing amazing.

Went to school at CUA for four years. Went home for a year.

Came back down. Now I live by CUA in Brookland and work at a bar in Adam's Morgan.

Breakfast hoagies are awesome.

Hoagiefest is awesome as well, I've been getting the Italian hoagie on a wheat roll for $3.49 and it's great. Couple that with a side of meatballs, and a Grape Snapple to go with it.

And I'm pretty sure you can still get that toasted.
