San Diego Gulls..... WCHL

Just a shout out to the local Jr. team in Southern California....

I have been living in San Diego for 15 years, and in this specific area for 8+ years, and never knew that after the minor league Gulls left, they had a Jr. team playing just 5 minutes down the road.

Any other fans of the WCHL? I know it's very, very much below the other Jr. leagues, but it's hockey none the less. I will be trying to take my son to a few games when they start this fall.

My son is 5 now, and has taken up a fondness for hockey. We have all the equipment, he just needs to get a little more steady on the skates. Good thing is, the ice arena, even in So Cal, is open year round for public skating. So, on those 100 degree July and August days, we will be working on his skating in a nice 55 degree rink, hoping to get him ready for hockey lessons in the fall.

You mean the WSHL? And the WSHL isn't that low compared to other leagues. The El Paso Rhinos actually made the Tier III Jr. A championship game in 2011.

Sorry, the minor league Gulls were WCHL, the junior guys are WSHL........

El Paso is in their Mid-Western division, San Diego is in the Western. Idaho is the best team in the Western, they went 45-5-2 this year.....

Gulls are a pretty decent side and use mostly local players unlike the power teams in the WSHL West last year (Idaho/Pho/Fresno). Will be interesting to see what happens this year as the WSHL has realigned and expanded.

I agree with the above poster, it is a pretty good league. The major problem its really hard to get seen as most scouts don't bother coming this far West. I think they should do some more showcases in the MidWest.

All that said, you should catch a few games this year, pretty entertaining and pretty cheap.

Gee, you'd never know it by the myriad of WHL and USHL scouts that were in attendance during the state U18 an U16 championship games held at the Escondido Iceoplex back in February.

Get a few of the Selects 95's to play WSHL and maybe they change their mind, until then...

San Diego Men's Hockey Team Looking for Players

I play ice hockey in a competitive men's league at UTC on Thursdays and recently lost a bunch of players on our team for this fall season. Does anyone know of any Defensemen/Players interested in playing in a league this fall. Games are once a week (Thursday) and the season is a total of 18-21 games.

I could play, but at 39 + years old, I wouldn't be too "competetive"......

Skated at UTC a couple of times. Never watched any of the league games though.
