Grinder of Choice?

iF YOU had to choose between these 4 grinders as UFA which would you ADD?

1--Joel Ward Predators 6'1/219lbs

2--Scott Upshall 6'/200lbs

3--Matt D'Agostini 6'194lbs

4--Evgeny Artukhin 6'4/257lbs

All are good for about 15-19 goals and Upshall has some nice playmaking when he can stay healthy...

which would you pick assuming a 2-2.75m / yr contract.

Hypothetically, Upshall. Realistically, none.

Because this team has dearth of grinders in the organization? Pass.

Upshall but you forgot a very important one, Anthony Stewart. Sather loves bloodlines so i can see Stewart being an option.

Jesus, 6'4 257? Is Artyukhin just a roided out version of Prust?

Exactly...We have enough grinders and we have other holes to fill..1st C and offensive d-man come first...

But, I do love me some Joel WARD .....see him as more then a grinder..a good skater..good PK,,now.a good presence in front of the net...Was amazing in the POs this past year...So, I guess I wouldn't mind him at all if we moved out one of our grinding types...But after Richards and a d-man!

Artyukhin has 19 goals in 199 games. He's never scored more than 6 goals in one single NHL season and he is a penalty taking machine and he doesn't pk. He is big and a heavy hitter but limited otherwise. As far as I know he's in Russia somewhere and I don't expect he's ever going to get another chance in the NHL and 15 goals for him in a year would be a real reach.

D'Agostini is small--can score some goals and be a pest.

Ward and Upshall are more the grinder kind of players. Of the two I prefer Upshall but Ward is a little more disciplined--kind of like a Fedotenko.

I guess I agree but I would like to see the Rangers add a 4th line faceoff specialist this offseason. I don't think they need to break the bank but they need somebody to take important defensive zone faceoffs. I don't think that guy is currently on the roster or in the system. I understand we are probably going to have a bit of a glut at center if Richards is signed. Perhaps Boyle shifts to Left Wing and Fedetenko isn't resigned. Something has to give though...

Eh...I would have taken a flyer on Jagr, to be honest. I am more concerned about RW, as Zuccarello did little to impress me last year. And, I'm not wedded to the concept of the Pack Line as others are.

I like Joel Ward.

But I would really like to get Mike Rupp in here.

Can take a regular shift, is disciplined, hits everything, protects.

The Modern day "goon"

Someone that can fight and play.

i know most ranger fans want finesse players and all the pretty plays but look who won the cup a team that crashes the net. the rangers also had problems screening the goalie, i mean alot of goals are scored in front of the net. rangers need another big body or 2 that can play there. id love if Boyle can get put in front on a consistent basis on a regular shift.... rangers need to crash the net more...

I'll gladly take both Joel Ward and Fedotenko on this team.

Two players who would make life unpleasant for opponents. If they can improve their offensive skill/attack/production and get both of these grinders; this team would be very difficult for opponents.

Realistically, this team can sign both Fedo and Joel Ward, if Sather doesn't go nuts in trying to get Brad Richards. If Richards wants a deal that is irrational (i.e. huge money for more than 3 years), Sather should back off and seek other options for improving the offense (trades, our prospects..etc).

Wait it out and see what next summer brings in the way of Free Agents.

Richards may be the only option this summer, but he's not the only option forever. Next summer and the summer after..... there will be more options.

No, the Rangers need to score more. Improve the PP, and bring in actual offensive talent, and they will score more.

No arguement on Jagr here..I would have too (well, if they are signing Richards)..Feel the same about Zucc---has alot to learn--- and the Pack line...Guess i gota watch it with my vet love..

SOS - you got a point about a FO man but perhaps if it isn't done by October that can wait until later in the season when they see if we are a team that is good enough and needs to worry about that piece (which I hope we are)...

rather have Anthony Stewart over Ward. Stewart is younger bigger a little more expensive and has a bit more skill. rangers need another power forward like Stewart not another 4th liner PK player like Ward...

so crashing the net doesnt help score goals lets get more finesse players who overpass the puck and play the side boards and not in front of the net...
