Young D need time to develop. Anybody who's already given up on Weber is sorely lacking in perspective. His future's very much TBA. This year is a huge opportunity for him.
I'm not mad we kept Weber. There would be no point in just dumping him, but we can't ice players like Weber regularly AND call ourselves a contender. The two are mutually exclusive.

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $50,345,509; BONUSES: $400,000
CAP SPACE (17-man roster): $13,954,491
RFA with QO: Gorges (3.0?), White (0.6?)
So ~10 Millions for:
- 1 back up goaltender (1.0?)
- 0-1 defenseman
- 1-2 top nine forwards.
- 1-2 4th line/injury forwards.
Man, I really like the position we're in. Some people will always complain no matter what, but this is great management by PG and co. We're also in a good position to re-sign Price and PK comfortably next summer.

we already were. We have about 7 million coming off next year.
Where were you during the playoffs? Just happened to forgot that Wiz fractured his hand in Game 2, right? Right. And Weber was used as a forward (mind you he looked great) and not as a Dman like he's supposed to be.
I was there.
D James Wisniewski 6 0 2 2 -3 /22:23
D Yannick Weber 3 2 0 2 +1 / 8:46
we constantly whine that we dont give the kids a chance. I'm happy we finally give Weber a chance.
+ it really didn't make sense to offer Wiz 5M to be 3rd string dman. If you remember well, we have Markov and Subban ahead of him.
it's up to Weber to prove that he can or cannot do the job now.

i was always okay with giving ice to young guys like Weber and Emelin. I was never okay with letting Wiz go and keeping Hammer because we'd lose a better player and keep an older player taking ice time from the young guys. At least I see a direction here and not contradictions. So we let the old or expensive guys go in favor of the younger developing guys. I am okay with this.
I think the defense is set; Spacek will be a great mentor for the youngins (Subban, Weber, Emelin, Diaz), he's good in the locker room and he still got some gas left in the tank (He'll be a great 7th d-man).
Now if we re-sign Auld @ 1 mill, we basically have 9 mill left for our forward.
How about getting Jagr (big body with lots of skill still), Arnott (big body with truculence) and Talbot (warrior)?
I don't know if there's better UFAs out there, I didn't really look at it, but fact is, we have some money left for our forwards.

Weber was FINE as a #6 last season, seriously!
I don't get why he gets hate at all. I remember a time where some people believed Weber was a better prospect then Subban. I honestly believe that Subban has made people forget about Weber or make them think he's garbage. He's not going to hurt anyone as the #5-6 guy (especially as he continues to evolve his game) and #2 PP minutes.

but but even with Wiz at 5,5 millions we would had 4,5 millions to spend on 2 great forwards and a backup goalie
I'll admit I'm not the biggest Pierre Gauthier supporter out there, but he has been a BEAST with contracts this off-season.
With the amount of cap space we have, something will definitely go down. With the QO to Gorges, we can even push back his "big" contract another year and have more contracts to take on. All that WITH Gomez and Spacek on said payroll.

Weber just needs to put on muscle so the big, strong players don't push him around. Hopefully, he is doing that this offseason.

He should be a number 7, but he is looking like he's going to be in our top 4 unless Spacek bounces back in a huge way.

Exactly. And the best thing is that if he breaks out, he could become a hot trade bait and one we could probably afford to let go without affecting too much our depth.

That's over used around here, yeah he's not big but he's pretty stocky and he handles himself relatively well despite his smaller stature. He's not as intimidating as Subban but if you pair him with someone who has a little truculance to his game atleast it would nul it self out.
In any event I do agree it wouldn't hurt for him to add another 5lbs or more of muscle this summer.
If we sign Hamrlik, we have 8D, and if Emelin stays with us, I can see Weber being used as a forward. I don't know where people thought Wiz was supposed to fit in.
Gauthier's plan is really starting to come together, I just really hope he goes after some tough forwards

whats does a "player like weber" mean ?lol.an the wiz makes us a contender?yea .ok.weber s gonna be solid defensively and much cheaper.see ya wiz.
Damn, we either give up on our young players too quickly, trading them away for nothing, OR we should not be wasting money on them and signing older guys instead. Make up your minds!
