Who is your Breakout Ranger for next season?

Artem Anisimov.

You could argue that he has already done so, because 44 points in your second year in the NHL is nothing to scoff at, but I really think Anisimov is going to put it all together this year.

I made a bold prediction in an earlier thread that he will be better then Jordan Staal, and I stick by it. He is extremely talented on both sides of the puck, and the only thing that is really holding him back is consistently using his talent. He has shown flashes of brilliance in both a defensive and offensive capacity, and if he can have them on a more consistent basis, he will be a treat to watch.

I predict a season for 25 goals and 35 assists for Anisimov this year over the course of a full season (injuries not withstanding).

Agree with Anisimov, also nominate Tim Erixon. He'll be on our second pairing by December

Mats Zuccarello....

We can all see how talented he is and I believe the new headshot rules will give him a little extra space. I think knowing now what to expect in the NHL will be an added benefit. I think it's way to early to give up on him as other posters have....

I would say Stepan but I feel he's already considered "broken out."

So I'll go with the consensus here with Erixon. Really excited to see what he can do.

THIS is a fun thread.

Of guys who've played on the team before, Anisimov, Stepan, Sauer & McDonagh are all the leading possibilities, IMO. I guess you could also throw Dubi and Cally in there, but in order for either to really "break out" from previous performances they'd have to hit ~70 points. In MDZ's case we're hoping he RETURNS to breakout status, so I'm not sure he counts. Erixon is an obvious choice as a rookie. Less obvious rookie choices would be Hagelin, Valentenko or Kundratek. And then there are out-of-left-field kids, who no one expects to make the team, but could come on like Skinner did for the Canes last year (e.g. Thomas).

The nice thing is that there are a LOT of good choices there - and it's entirely possible that more than one have what we consider "breakout" seasons. To choose just one, I'm going to go with Stepan, although I honestly think what'll happen is you'll see marked, steady improvement by all four of the first names I mentioned plus Erixon stepping right in as a capable contributor from day 1, without any necessarily startling leaps forward.

Anisimov is probably going to show us this year what direction his career is going.

for the 3rd year straight i will nominate Brandon Dubinsky

i think he's looking at 60-70 points if we get richards and he plays on the top line

All very good choices. We also will get to see Ryan Callahan as his new role as Captain and on a lesser note Marc Staal with another year under his belt and likely a full time assistant captain.

(And hopefully Brad Richards)

The wonderful thing about this question are that there are so many possibilities as it's a tribute to the team's position in terms of youth.

I agree with lots of these picks. It is probably difficult considering how young our Roster really is.

I really like our young d core, but I feel there is a lack of puck moving talent. All of our players are solid defensively which is most important, but I think we need to see an improvement in the first pass / skating departments. Do any of you guys think our defenseman are capable of a step up in this regard? Girardi produced more offensively last year, as well as Staal. McD and Sauer had solid rookie seasons, with both providing a good defensive first pairing.

Does anyone see one of McD or Sauer taking their offensive game to the next level? I hope to see some more from McD due to his skating ability. I am less sold on Sauer's offense, but I think if MD can develops his a little more I would be extremely happy with that pairing regardless.

I think Del Zotto is going to be great this year and dominate on the PP point

I expect Marc Staal to improve his offense. He won't exactly be Duncan Keith, but we could see 30-35 points out of him, and 12 goals.

Anisimov is gonna put the league on notice by blowing up offensively. I feel he has the skill to do so. I'm thinking Datsyuk-lite.

Anisimov.

Like the idea of Staal breaking out offensively, too. Saw the highlight where he scored the goal on Tuuka Rask. Let's see that more often.
