How does he figure into the Top 4? I doubt it.

My ideal pairs would probably be:

Markov-Gorges
Gill-Subban
Spacek-Weber

Given what we already have. Gorges & Subban are interchangable in their spots. Spacek-Weber we're a pretty solid third pairing during their stint together this season, I was impressed anyways. I always walked away thinking Weber was the better of the two as well.

and if everything goes well come trade deadline. trade Spacek for a pick and we have

Markov-Subban
Emelin-Gorges
Gill-Weber

Diaz

Weber has a really good shot. He rarely gets to use it. Keep him on D and give him some ice time. Maybe this is his chance. If the Habs can pick up one or two solid offensemen than I can overlook letting Wiz walk.

I just threw up. We would have one of the softest D's in the league with that lineup.

Good deal. As it stands right now, I think he is very capable of being a #6 defenseman in this league with room to only improve.

Ideal given what we have.

Idealy for me Spacek is dealt and we can put someone with some grit in his spot. Yemelin may or may not be that guy, I'd like to think he can be... But going into the regular season with 3 young inexperienced regulars like Subban, Weber and Yemelin does have the potential to get ugly. I'm not worried about Subban...

Very nice deal. Depending on who the Habs sign on Friday, if they actually do sign a few people, I would like to see Weber on the second wave of the PP to show off his shot. He's been decent defensively, but has yet to show his full potential with his shot.

Weber has done nothing but impress me more and more each season

rly happy we got him back, he can easily be what wiznieski was for us offensivly at 1/5 the salary, just needs to be given the CHANCE

Talk about pumping up someone for doing nothing. Its not like Weber was ever going to ask for the bank. Its in Weber's best interest to have a low cap hit so he can actually play 82 games and develop instead of overpricing himself off the team.

In any event I do agree it wouldn't hurt for him to add another 5lbs or more of muscle this summer.
I'm not one of the "must grow 3 inches and gain 20 lbs" guys. If he adds muscle, he'll add weight. But there were instances last season where he'd throw a check and it barely affect the guy he was checking or he'd lose puck battles because he "crumpled" easily. He should address those things this offseason.

This is what pisses me off. Weber will not produce 50 points next season, he probably won't even produce 20 points next season.

I truly believe he can put up 30 points or more next season if he's given some ice-time and some confidence from the coaching staff. He's been dynamite in every league he's played in, there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to translate his offense in time. He was on pace for 22 last season and he was hardly used, and he certainly wasn't shown too much confidence most of the time.

I would be very surprised if the habs don't sign a UFA D - I don't know who, but they'll sign someone.

If only because they wanted Hamrlik back. This means they believe their depth to be short of one skater, and I agree with them.

It will be a guy nobody thought of. Expect the unexpected.

I'll gladly take you up on that 20 point comment, if you're actually serious about it.

the only two guys who are soft are Weber and Spacek.

Markov is not soft at all if he's healthy
Subban gritty
Gorges not soft
Emelin not soft at all
Gill maybe he's soft but he's big and great in front of the net.

small yes but far from soft

that settles it then. He was on pace to, so that means he will. Darche was on pace for 36 points last season, I guess that's a lock too.

When you have two rookies, a sophomore, one player that barely played last season, another that has barely played the last two seasons, and a 36 year old, you are asking for trouble.

They need to find another defenceman that can play some good minutes. Kind of like Hamrlik 4 seasons ago. A guy willing to take a 3 year contract, which gives Tinordi and Beaulieu time to develop.

What are you talking about? Weber would be one of the best bottom-pairing defensemen in the LEAGUE. A third pairing of him and Spacek would be one of the top third pairings in the NHL.
