Booth played 82 games this year.

The concussion(singular) is behind him.

23 goals, 40 points on a gutter team. Team leader, Weiss, had 49. Santorelli #2 at 41.

Never scored under 20 goals in a full season.

Gives 100% effort on every shift, fast, big.

25 years old.

Id easily give up one of Anisimov or Del Zotto for Booth. Have to give to get. No one is giving their gold for our crap.

If we can't get a true top-line option, then I'd prefer more of banger in the Boyle/Dubinsky mode.

I would give Kostitsyn a good amount to come to NYC. He would be a fantastic addition.

Nah. I think Kostitsyn would be an awesome signing as a UFA. We could then put Dubi on the top line without worrying about depth:

Dubinsky-Richards-Gaborik
Kositsyn-Anisimov-Callahan

Awesome.

He would be benched by Tortorella instantly.

Sergei? No. Trotz whipped his ass into shape. He's actually been used at times on the PK.

No, he was taken to arbitration.

Kostitsyn, Spaling, O'Reilly, and Halischuk would be UFAs.

Am I the only one thinking that Jagr is going to be a Ranger this year? If the Rangers manage to get Jagr and Richards. I would be the happiest man in the world!

The cap will go down in the next CBA. The players get 57% right now. The NFL players are going except less but their pool of money is $10 BILLION and that number will only increase. The NBA players will get less but the NBA proposed a $62M cap in their last proposal. The NHL is a $3 billion business. Brooks wrote last Sunday the 1st year cap in the next CBA will be the current midpoint of $56M. It's not that bad. With the Drury buyout, the Rangers are spending $60M plus this season.

Bingo! Sounds like they may have not put the paperwork in on time a-la the Blackhawks.
That team would be gutted instantly.

Weber will NOT be an unrestricted free agent. He and the Predators filed for arbitration, therefore protecting him from ANY type of outside offer in the form of a contract. He is only available via trade.

Do you expect it to then slowly start increasing again after the first year bump down?

EDIT: because that's what I'd expect to happen.

NHLPA claiming Predators missed qualifying offers on RFA's O'Reilly, Spaling, Halischuk and Kostitsyn.

Same here—only way they would trade Booth is if they could get back a slightly more expensive, yet equally valuable player. They cannot afford to let go of a productive player that carries a cap hit as high as his—they paid Tomas freaking Kopecky 12M over 4 seasons just to help reach the cap floor.

This seems to be becoming a prolem. I think there is a 0% chance that the cap will not go down in the next CBA.

He did look better in Nashville, especially towards the end of the season, but I still don't think I'd be high on the signing right away. Still has a lot to prove before I'd pencil him as a legitimate and consistent option.

I'm not entirely sure if the head injury he sustained at the end of the 2009-2010 season was a concussion—I know he suffered an injury, but I don't believe it was very serious.

from wikipedia

Quote:
On October 24, 2009, Mike Richards of the Philadelphia Flyers hit Booth high with his shoulder, knocking him unconscious. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and brought to a Philadelphia hospital. Booth was released from hospital on October 25, having suffered a concussion. David Booth recorded his first Gordie Howe hat trick on March 3, 2010 in a win over the Philadelphia Flyers. On March 25, 2010 Jaroslav Spacek of the Montreal Canadiens hit Booth with his shoulder, knocking him unconscious again after only a month back in action. He was kept overnight in the hospital and released the next morning and thought that he might be able to return back to competition. However, On March 28, it was determined that Booth will sit out the remainder of the season due to more severe symptoms.[1]
so not clear if the spacek hit was a 2nd concussion or if he was still suffering symptoms from the first...but he played like 19 games after returning so i gotta think its 2 concussions.

the fact that he played all 82 games, but the concussions plus 3 more years on his deal does make me pause to think about it

No thanks to Sergei, guy was invisible in the playoffs. I'm shocked they let go of Halischuk though.

at first that scared me too...but he played all 82 games last year and had 129 hits indicating he didn't shy from contact.

the concussion risk lowers what i'd offer and if the asking price is too high then we walk away...but i'd be on the phone to find out what it would take

While we're talking about concussions, it looks like Paul Kariya is officially announcing his retirement today.
