I prefer it be Varlamov, but I would sign off on this trade if Kiprusoff's cap hit wasn't so unforgiving and the contract wasn't so long.

Why would Calgary only take back 1 good peice from trading Kiprusoff? I'd expect them to want at least Alzner on that return.

Kipper's deal realistically is only for two more seasons. His contract was one of the first (if not the first) retirement type contracts. It currently has 3 seasons left on it, but the 3rd year only has him being paid 1.5 million.

That being said, I don't think the Flames are shopping him at the moment.

Why would the Caps want to downgrade in goal and pick up a huge cap hit?

Neuvirth and Holtby are both untouchable. They are the future, they're young and cheap and Kipper already has some prime years behind him. This us pointless for DC.

Kipper is by far the best piece here. Arguably a top 3 goalie in the league. He gets no respect on hf

I wouldn't say he's "by far the best piece" on the Flames. IF he's a better piece than Iginla, it's not by much. And to rebuilding teams, he's essentially worthless because of his age. To a contender with a need at goalie, yes, he has value, but again, don't know if it's "by far" the most. And Washington doesn't have a need at goalie. I do think Kiprusoff would be an upgrade, but not enough of one to warrant trading for him.

iginla isnt involved in the deal, hence kiprusoff is the best piece.

edit: referring to adding Alzner to the mix.
The CAPS have been waiting for a stud top pairing guy since GMGM took over. Now we have 2 and the old one is 22 with at least 4 more years of . Neither of these guys is going to be part of any trade that is not an extreme trade win for the CAPS. Kipper doesn't meet that requirement. The length of his contract and it's cost actually would hurt the CAPS and not help.

I thought that by "here" he meant "Calgary", not "this thread/trade proposal". Which is it?

Iggy for Kuznetsov, Orlov, Poti and your 1st. We have no need to trade Iginla atm so it will require overpayment.

make it neuvy instead of holtby and i do this as a caps fan.

neuvy is going to be a good nhl goalie but i do not think he will be great. the caps are ready to win now. kipper gets them closer.

lol yes downgrade.

Kipper has been an above-average NHL goalie once in the last 4 seasons.

Definitely a downgrade in goal for the Caps.

I'm sorry to have to call you out, but you obviously haven't seen him play very much. I watch upwards of 50 flame games here in Alberta, and he'd outperform our guys, especially if we gave him goal support.

Wait, are Caps' fans serious about dealing one of the young (and cheap) goalies for Kiprusoff??

An average NHL starting goaltender has a save percentage of typically around .915 in any given year.

Kipper's save percentages in the last four years: .906, .920, .903, .906

He's been a well below-average starter for 3 of the last four years.

He's 34 with 3 more years left at $5.83M.

He's not even a top 15 NHL goalie, let alone this top-5 nonsense.

The only way I'd trade for him if I were the Caps is if I had to take him to get Iginla or Giordano.
