Richards.

The way our team is currently structured, we need one Brad Richards much worse than we need two 2nd/3rd line players.

If we don't get Brad, you sit on the cap space (for the most part) and look to the next couple years.

If Richards doesn't sign here the penalty for contacting his agent should be no less than tarring and feathering and the ensuing public humiliation.

Am I really the only one here that is so extremely confident that Brad Richards will be a Ranger that I don't let any other fan base, or media speculation, or the inclusion of other teams in the talks bother me.

Right now I am 99.5% sure that Brad Richards will be a Ranger, with a extremely slight tinge of fear about Buffalo.

To me there really is no case for any other team but the Rangers.

It's been said countless times: Brad loves New York, has shown interest in NY for a while, and has a strong relationship with Torts.

Toronto is a media-crazy overhyped team that is still a few years away from being competitive. Why put yourself in that environment if you're in Brad's shoes.

Buffalo is a really good team and has the money to offer him a good contract, but would he really be interested in playing in Buffalo. With that said the .5% that I mentioned was because I was a little worried about Buffalo. But at the same time he has absolutely no connections to the team/area.

Philly is a hogwash destination for him. They have their own free agents to worry about and unless they clear up more cap space by say, tomorrow, they have no shot at him.

Tampa is a pipe dream in my eyes as well. Tampa has other needs that they need to focus on. Their offense is the least of their worries, and right now they have bigger issues to worry about then trying to sign Brad Richards.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Brad Richards will be a Ranger in the next couple of days. If I'm wrong I'll be more than glad to eat crow.

To be honest I'm not worried about the other teams, I'm more worried about the contract he will sign with us.

Very optimistic there Becca.

I think we are front runners but Richards will get paid. Teams will throw money at him (Toronto). I'd say 50-50 right now. JMO

I guess I am overly confident, but what I wrote above is truly how I feel.

If I'm wrong then it's really no skin off my nose, we still have a pretty competitive team that will only get better.

Very true. It'll be interesting what kind of $$$ Burke throws at Richards. Not completely sold on Buffalo but time will tell though.

It will hopefully all be over by Friday at around 5 o'clock.

Reminiscent of Marian Gaborik's signing

Fair enough. I definitely agree that Richards is the only one worth going for long term and for the money, but it's difficult to watch Sather make that sort of deal with our previous UFA signings.

I didn't even know this board had 43,000+ members. It's like Tyler Bozak saw our poll and summoned them here with his magical teardrops.

I hope Richards comes here without a NMC and lights it up for the first half of his deal at least. But, if Buffalo goes ******* and starts tossing around 8+ 8 year deals, we walk away, or if Richards demands a NMC so that we're stuck with him when he's 37....walk away.

We'd be much better with Richards, but we're good enough to make and compete hard in the POs and see who's available next year if the deal isn't right.

The only reason Biron was done so quickly was because the Islanders allowed him to negotiate with whoever he wanted before July 1st. The deal between the Rangers and Biron was already complete, and just formalized on July 1st at 12:01pm.

Burke is a desperate man. He's been a failure in his time in Toronto. My gut says he'll push it to 8.5M but still won't land Richards.

But the Leafs will be ok at C. They still have first line center Bozak and future hall of famer Reimer in goal. Cup contenders for sure brah.

so honestly what are we going to think if the NYR don't sign Richards?

There is no other option out there that can provide top line C help plus he runs the PP.

Sather is gonna pony up if he has too.
