Don't they need to put those guys on waivers today before 12 for that to be possible?

isn't there another buy-out period? They can muster by using the 10% summer cap and delay the RFA signings.

Pretty sure there's only a second buyout period if you have several RFA's going to arbitration. I haven't been keeping up on Buffalo's RFA status but it seemed like they don't have many?

Where is RangerBoy? Need him to post some links and excerpts that reaffirm our likelihood of landing Richards tomorrow!

If Dreger and McGuire are confident about our chances, then so am I.

Yeah, I just hope this is wrapped up tomorrow afternoon and doesn't drag into next week.

Eh, the thread doesn't bother me; having a fanbase like the Leafs blowup a poll about where Richards is likely to end up is rather disturbing to me, as if the results are somehow going to influence Richards choice of destination.

Impressions from Torts interview at the end of development camp are coming out now. This is the one I like best.

Quote:
NYDNRangers Jesse Spector

Tortorella makes it sound as if there is no Plan B. To paraphrase, he says if you don't get what you want, might be best to stand pat.
Other good ones involving Richards:

Quote:
AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Tortorella says he doesn't believe in recruiting players. Thinks the players should want to play here.
Quote:
NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
Tortorella again praises Sather for hanging on to young talent, but says July 1 represents opportunity to address needs.
Quote:
NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
As on breakup day, the subtext to what Tortorella said was "Brad Richards." You knew that already.
Quote:
thenyrangers New York Rangers
Torts: "I like our team...we need to improve in certain areas...but we are going to stay with it while trying to improve along the way"
Quote:
JimCerny Jim Cerny
Torts repeatedly referred to "the frenzy" of July 1 and cautions against being swept up in it; did say team "is there" ready 4 next step

Kinda makes me wish Tortorella had designs on becoming a GM...

I couldn't agree more. My only concern would be how his combative nature plays with other GMs, and how that might affect his relationship for trades.

Yeah I'm not sure he has the personality to be good with trades and signing players, but I think he has a pretty good idea how to build a team

I'd be more concerned about his combative nature during contract negotiations with RFA's... Unless someone else within the organization would conduct those... I thought I read that Cam Hope was doing those for us (I know he is now leaving).

Yeah, I think his philosophy would better suit him to being the director of player personnel than to GM. He'd have a major hand in the direction of an organization.

A coach will always have a different mindset than a GM. Especially with the Rangers. We all know Sather is GM for life, so he can go through coach after coach while he rearranges the deck chairs of his hockey team.

A coach has a much shorter shelf-life. If the Rangers don't show improvement in the next year or two, it'll be 'on to the next one'.

Im glad there is no Plan B in free agency. If we dont get him then there is no one else on the market who is going to make us better than we already are. Just let the kids play or find a center via trade.

I'd keep Eminger around as a 6/7. I'd be okay with Fedetenko, too.

Torts said something totally different according to Zipay.......possibly hinting at a trade.

It's worked for other teams, you just need to have a good GM. Oh wait...darn.

It's just so cool that this is a saga. I'm not even a star wars fan really, it's just a great word
