IMO Giroux is worth more than he's getting, but he wasn't going to be a UFA so it's completely different $ situation. I don't think Leino should get that much necessarily, but I'd much rather see him in orange/black next year than other colors. Guy has chemistry with everyone, has stayed healthy so far, stays out of the box.

He has had hip problems in each of the last two years.

Yet he managed to put up good numbers and play in 81 games this season. He's young enough I wouldn't be too concerned.

the HBL blew chunks the 2nd half the year.

Guess that was all on Hartnell and Briere.
couldnt of been Leinos fault

Don't want to resign Leino, let someone else overpay for the spin-o-rama.

It was Carter and Richards' fault.

I am sure Ryan Bright and Timah think that.
wouldnt shock me anyway.

Meltzer is saying on twitter the Flyers and Leino continue to talk. God, I am fearing a really dumb contract.

It seemed worse than it was because the line got broken up. Don't forget he moved to other lines and had success.

Oct-Dec: 9-17-26, 0.68 points/game
Jan-Apr: 10-17-27, 0.63 points/game
Playoffs (11 game sample): 3-2-5, 0.45 points/game

Not that he didn't become very frustrating as an all-around player, not sure if hip played into that. The whole HBL line got away from what made them successful, a willingness to get behind the net and involved in boardplay throughout the zone despite 2/3 guys being light on size.

They didn't get broken up much. And his game fell off big time after the break.

Posted this in the NHL thread too. Jussi Jokinen re-signs for 3 yrs/ $9 million. Ville isn't worth more than he is. Anything more than $3 million, let him walk.

Another possible comp: Tomas Kopecky, 4 years at $3M. Yikes.

I like Leino and really want to see him back. The only problem is I like the 3-3.25 million range and I can see him being offered more. Not to mention I don't know why anyone would take a hometown discount for the Flyers anymore.

why would he take one to play here anyways? he's spent less than a year and a half with us

then again, we actually showed the league what he's got

Perhaps he really likes playing here, like many others.

I would point to Jussi Jokinen @ 3M for 3 years and argue that it should set Leino's ceiling IMO.

Not only did his production significantly go down after the ASG, but he also became a turnover machine and defensive play was AWFUL...not surprisingly it continued into the playoffs. Anything over 3 million for him is an overpayment. He's a replaceable commodity; not a big loss.

now does anyone remember how horrible both briere and hartnell were before they were set with leino on the same line.

If the Flyers have to pay a winger $4.2M per, I'd rather that it was Leino than Hartnell.

At this point, the Flyers should be trying to trade Leino's rights for whatever they can get. It's clear he's not re-signing with us in the next 14 hours.

Can you trade after 5pm? Or would we have to wait until the AM?

I don't think any team trades for his rights; let's be honest, his agent probably has been talking to other teams already. It's tampering, but it happens. Noon tomorrow is far too close.
