X1 - Jagr would be my first pick, simply because he is an interesting plug for 1 year and we wouldn't have to overcommit on a deal to a guy like Erik Cole or Ville Leino

X2 - Talbot, Rupp, Konopka would all be of interest.

X3 - Jonathan Ericsson, Jim Vandermeer, Shane O'Brien, Jan Hejda. Average top 4 types but they would add size and some grit to our lineup.

X4 - Mathieu Garon as long as he comes in at less than $1.5. I'd be fine with bringing Auld back as well.

Andrei Markov-Alexei Yemelin
Hannan-PK Subban

Carey Price
Turco

Not a bad line up.

They will probably speak about our only aquisition of the summer ... Mathieu Darche.

Just kidding (not really), let's see how it goes.

Even in Cole's "bad" year he scored 16 goals in 63 games in Edmonton.

I have no problem signing him to a 2-3 year contract in the 4-4.25 mil range, I'm just concerned taht a dry UFA market will lead to a guy like that ending up in the 4.75-5 mil range. If he ends up out of our range, better to move on to Langenbrunner, Upshall, Frolov maybe. We don't need a savior, just a guy with decent size that can do the dirty work for Cammy and Plekanec and still score 15-20 on his own. AK is more suited as the finisher on a line.

1st choice-Upshall and Talbot.

2nd choice-Vrbata and Rupp

3rd choice - Dvorak and Konopka

Or

Trade Gomez for Grimaldi and sign Brad Richards to $8mil per!

Top 6 above all else:
Jagr
Cole (would be just as happy)
...
Upshall (worth a shot if above can't be had)

As per defense I'd actually prefer we didn't sign another D.

Markov-Subban
Gill-Gorges
Weber-Emelin
Spacek (switched with Weber from time to time)
Injury: Diaz, Nash, etc

Yes it's a young D, yes Gill is on the 2nd pairing with Gorges, Weber-Emelin get time to learn and if it's at our expense Spacek who I'm sure is still competent (just way overpaid) would be able to step in.

Then:

Player who can fight well, plays with a lot of energy, is big, can take faceoffs, isn't a total liability. You name that player Sorry I should've remembered at least that Torres is worth looking into even if he doesn't fit the bill 100%

1 season ago. 11 goals 5 assists in 40 games on pace for 22-10. That 16 goal season he had 11 asssits on pace for 20-14.
Is that really worth nearly $1M more then AK?

Different skill set, Cole plays the gritty, in your face agitator game. He is faster than AK and drives the net more...AK has more pure skill and better finisher.

Steve MacIntyre to play on the fourth line. A physical defenseman and Scottie Upshall as well. Habs have enough skill, its time for some brawn

A Gomez trade perhaps?

Once Richards is off the market, teams that need to get the minimal salary cap will be looking for players like him.

Realistically, we have a better shot at getting the following 2nd tier UFAs rather than Jagr, Ehroff kind:
1. Cole/Purcell
2. Jovonoski/Hamrlik
3. Konopka

Some players I'd inquire about:

Top 6:
Simon Gagne (age 31)
Scottie Upshall (age 27)
Tomas Fleischmann (age 27)
Ville Leino (age 27)

Bottom 6:
Sean Begenheim (age 27)
Antti Miettinen (age 30)
Mike Rupp (age 31)
Max Talbot (age 27)

Defense:
Tomas Kaberle (age: 33)
Andy Greene (age 27)
Scott Hannan (age 32)

Perhaps one of each role.

Jagr or Cole, + Talbot or Konopka.

A cheap stay-at-home D.

A cheap back up.

To everyone looking for a backup. Does anyone think Drew MacIntyre could be the backup? He seemed to do real well in the playoffs for the Dogs this season. Just wondering
