I don't see Engqvist as an option right now. He still needs some seasoning, and will get his cup of coffee this year again. We definitely need a solid experienced center in that position. Having 4 solid two way centers goes a long way with the type of club we have.

Bergenheim and Hedberg would be solid signings, IMO. Leino has some youth on his side, but so do Upshall and Higgins, and they played more against top competition than Leino.
Thing about Leino is he's an absolute tank. Upshall and Higgins, not so much.

FORWARDS
Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Erik Cole ($3.500m)
Max Pacioretty ($1.625m) / Scott Gomez ($7.357m) / Brian Gionta ($5.000m)
Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.250m) / Lars Eller ($1.270m) / David Desharnais ($0.850m)
Travis Moen ($1.500m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.800m) / Ryan White ($0.850m)
Mathieu Darche ($0.700m)

DEFENSEMEN
Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Josh Gorges ($2.500m)
Hal Gill ($2.250m) / P.K. Subban ($0.875m)
Jaroslav Spacek ($3.833m) / Alexei Yemelin ($0.984m)
Paul Mara ($0.800m) / Yannick Weber ($0.850m)

GOALTENDERS
Carey Price ($2.750m) / Alex Auld ($1.000m)

BUYOUTS: Georges Laraque ($0.500m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,795,509; BONUSES: $400,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,504,491

Jeff Halpern should be brought back, his numbers make him a bargain at that price. Mara is a good 7th/8th depth guy at that price. I believe this team should be able to qualify and push for home ice. More importantly, with 4.5M cap space, they team will be deadly come trade deadline.

Awards:
Jagr, Leino, Konopka Eaves and Auld.

Best bets are Jagr and Auld. Leino will probably cost too much for a bottom six player and Eaves is probably not a Gauthier type player. As for Konopka, I doubt it happens, but I'd love to see him in a Habs jersey.

Actually, I'd like to add Gagne. I believe he can stay healthy enough for a year or two.

It would make no sense to promote him where he is currently at when we can sign Halpern for 1 mil or less.

Sean Begenheim (age 27)

Tomas Kaberle (age: 33)
Andy Greene (age 27)
Scott Hannan (age 32)

Perhaps one of each role.
I'd prefer Upshall on our 3rd line with Eller and DD if we strike out with the rest of the fowards.

I forgot about Flash. Definitely interested.

I'd add Jokinen & Hejda as well. Even though most hate him, I'd take D'Agostini back as well. Solid list though.

Jokinen re-signed in Carolina this morning.

Halpern does not answer the other aspects that are lacking in our roster. We need better use of size and nastiness.
We need someone good at faceoffs...

Ahh damn. I was out all morning, didn't see that. Thanks for the heartbreak.

I'd be happy with Bergenheim, I honestly didn't think Tampa would be dumb enough to let that guy go though.

Oh and as a joke: Jagr and Kovalev

Cammy-Plek-Jagr
Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta
Kostitsyn-Eller-Kovalev
Moen-White-Bergenheim
Extra: Darche

Frick jagr folks, he is a 38 year old prima donna, soft player, and is selfish. Let the Pens take this garbage, 30 game a year player. I have no use for another Kovalev experiment.

We need to get younger, faster and grittier!

I want either Konopka, Eager, Rupp and Talbot, and Hannan.

How is it dumb Bergenheim is a 25-30 point guy and they need the room for Stamkos.

I'd be interested at 1.25-1.5 for 2-3 years but somebody will overpay and give him 2-2.5 mil per year because of his playoffs.

I like his game...just not at that price...unless our front office thinhs he has untapped potential on a top 6.

You know, when the jagr saga started I had the same opinion as you, until I went to a great site called hockeydb and typed Jaromir Jagr in the search bar. Trust me you'd be surprised what this guy is capable of! Also, I think comparing him to kovy is a mistake.

And Ed Jovanovski or Scott Hannan.

In the better world, I'd want
  • Ville Leino signed at 4 years/3.5M$ per
  • Zenon Konopka signed at 3 years/800k per
  • Ed Jovanovski signed at 4 years/5M$ per
  • Cheapest backup available, possibly Auld

Then we get to ride this lineup next year:

Leino - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Eller - Desharnais/Darche
White - Konopka - Moen

Ed Jovanovski - Alexei Emelin
Andreď Markov - Josh Gorges
Hal Gill - PK Subban

Price

This lineup would be one of the BEST in the league. Look at that fourth line!
I have to say that's a real step in the right direction.
