I think it's somewhat comparable, but also likely somewhat weaker at the same time. There are some very good players here, but also some guys (like Fogarty) who are several years away from the NHL and have been playing against weaker competition for their entire careers.

Still, I think what you're looking from with a guy like McIlrath is how well does he handle the speed of the game, and how is his footwork and decision making? It seems like he's improved in both of those areas, and that can be measured no matter who you're playing against.

Traverse City should be a better test for these guys. Going up against other team's top prospects.... By report, McIlrath handled himself well last year, playing alongside McDonagh. Hopefully he has another strong performance, and I'm dying to see if Thomas can bury some pucks in that tournament.

you guys realize how little 2-3 inches is at the distance of this photo? Miller probably has 2 inches from his hair alone.

People said the same things when I brought this up in the picture that had Dubinsky, Ortmeyer and Poti painting logos on Garden ice. I pointed out that, in comparing his height to Poti at 6'3", Dubi looked at least 6'1", and whaddya know, turns out I was right. I stand by my original statement.

All i have to say is "wow"

the level of these developmental camp scrimmages has seemed to rise every year. You notice how furious the pace is right away in that video, and it doesnt stop. Tons of speed and skill out there. This is great thing for the organization. The kids were definitely not going through the motions out there.

regarding Thomas...there's a picture of him next to McIlrath and he doesn't look that small. I'm not so sure it'll be size that holds him back at the next level, but whether he can just translate his skills to the NHL

edit: Thomas standing next to McIlrath and Miller (who apparently never smiles)

So yeah he's obviously smaller, but I dunno, he doesn't look tiny or something.

If McIlrath is 6'5...who's the giant creature in the background?

Noticing that Miller never smiles. He didn't look overly excited when drafted either. Is he the angry youth or just a serious cat?

My neice graduates UND this year...I think Miller is committed to there next year. I can't wait to go out there and catch a game. They should have a very good team again.

Miller is just gritty 24/7, bro.

He's got a little 80's Karate kid look about him. Reminds me of the Johnny's croney from the Cobra Kai. "Sweep the leg!"

Seems obvious that McIlrath and Thomas have become close. Like to see bonding like that even before they're teammates.

Thomas knows he's going to need some 'muscle' at the NHL level in the not too distant future. Rangers sent these guys to their Draft Party, so I'm sure they became acquainted there. But if they are still hanging out at this prospect camp, then that's a good sign.

That will give him plenty of opportunity to smile when he gets there.

I just have a feeling that McIlrath is going to make a lot of people eat their words in a few years. He is going to be abusing forwards all over the ice.

If he developed into a bigger, meaner, nastier Mike Sauer, I'd be thrilled. Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

I'd say that's about hitting the nail on the head.

Very happy Thomas looks really good against top prospects. And I'm rooting for Jam too. We need scorers like them two.

I think it's a safe bet that the competition is better. Your run of the mill third liner in the WHL does not make it to the development camp. The competition is older (there are no 16-17 year olds, but there are many guys who are 20-22), more polished and usually more talented as well.

I would imagine that nobody takes a night off when they come to play in an NHL camp.

I noticed his lack of emotion at the draft as well, and first thing that I thought of was Erixon and karma. I really hope this kid is pumped to be a Ranger, love his game.
