It seems to me that with Pronger and Kimmo getting older they need to make a move for the "now."

Maybe that is unwise, but Pronger has some sway in the organization. Are they really just going to watch him breakdown while the younger core grows?

Don't they need a B.Richards or Stamkos to keep Pronger happy? Or is he going to be okay declining with no realistic shot at the cup until 3 years down the road, if he stays that long.

I dont losing Betts and Shelly will make us a 06-07 again. On defense....ya... I agree. Getting rid of Meszaros would a huge mistake....which I am already preparing myself.

he's young, and being groomed, OK salary, and played well. Homer likes his D, I doubt it.

Why? I just don't understand. Mez was a rock last year, His physical play stood out and he looked miserable to play against.

2.5 sounds high for Gags. Don't you think he gets the old 1.5 bone we threw at emery or 2.0 for zherdev. We do need to add a little cheap selkeyness to these youngins up front though losin richards.

I wouldn't trade a dman, but they probably feel they lost too much offense. If we had to trade a dman I'd trade Mez because he was playing against the softest competition last year and he makes more money than Coburn and Carle.

Yeah he makes 4 Milly. But with Pronger constantly in the shop it would be stupid as **** to trade Mez

Mez has 3 years left
Carle has 1
Coburn has 1

Let's not trade the guy we have locked up and played very well last year, plus brings physical play.

I would move Carle. I feel he could get overpaid next offseason, he has good value now, and he has the lowest ceiling of the 3. I don't hate Carle, but he seems like the smartest one to move.

I think the contract is a good point to take into consideration, but in terms of their contributions I think Meszaros is overrated because he is sheltered on the third pairing.

I applaud any Star Wars reference for any hockey circumstance. However, I think the Jedi Mind trick belongs to Lou Lamoriello at the hockey draft. Stealing Parise in '03 and Larrson this year requires such a tactic.

At times he moved up and played well IMO. He has the physical attributes at 6'2" 220 and is a good skater. He is not afraid to use the body, can move the puck well, and plays well in his own end. Add in the fact he is only 25 years old and most defenseman hit there prime around age 26-29, and I think it would be stupid to move him.

I like Carle as well, but I think he is the one that should be moved IF WE MOVE ONE OF THEM (I would like to keep them all). He is smaller in stature and is not as physical. he is a year older and his contract expires at the end of the year he has some good value with him. Although he could improve, I think we have seen around where his ceiling can be (which is not bad, but I think Mez and Coburn have higher ceilings).

Overpaid and has the lowest ceiling? You'd think with Coburn having a high ceiling he would have a better chance of bringing in more talent on a trade than Carle. And I doubt Carle would take much more than he is making now.

Well with Pronger and Timonen getting older, I want the guys with higher ceilings on defense.

And he will get overpaid in FA like every player does. When the FA market dries up, Carle will become overrated and get a nice sized contract.

BTW, Coburn should not be in consideration IMO. Players who elevate there games come playoff time should be kept around.

If a guy like Ehrhoff can get a ten year deal worth $40 million, Carle can definitely hit $4.5 million per year on a 3-5 year deal. Not saying he's worth it, but he could get it on the open market, especially with the TV deal forcing another cap lift.

Carle is absolutely the best one to move because he sucks!

Seriously though, without Pronger he is worthless. Trade him.

This is not true....Once Pronger went down he was getting big, important minutes and played extremely well....He also was a beast in the playoffs against Buffalo...crapped the bed with the rest of the team against Boston though

How do you explain then that last year Carle had better numbers without Pronger then when Pronger was in?

I like Mesz and want him to stay, but I can see the purpose of this move. Barring injury, the Flyers top 4 are Pronger-Carle and Timonen-Coburn. There's no use in spending a lot on your 3rd pairing if you're now going with a system that will rely more on goaltending, when said 3rd pairing will be playing like 12 minutes max per night.

Why is there a 3 page thread based upon a freaking Bruce Garrioch tweet?

In the hierarchy of bull-**** rumor-mongers, Dwayne is Darth Vader while Garrioch is the ****ing Emperor.
