on the eklund rumor...its a great generalized statement for him to get hits to his site but if you stop to think about it, it makes zero sense. he says we are moving a 'key rfa' to clear cap space for a run at stamkos...
first off, boyle, anisimov and sauer don't make enough $$ for dumping them to make sense...when looking to clear cap space, teams don't normally first look to dump key contributors that make near the league minimum. even with raises, after you replace them with someone from hartford, you'd save like a couple $100k. not nearly enough to make it worthwhile to lose assets and weaken the team.
so that leaves dubinsky or callahan, who have cap hits right now of about $2 mil and will likely sign for $4 mil each...
so we are supposed to believe that sather is going to dump 1 of the 2 most important heart and soul players to clear up to $4 mil in cap space, BEFORE he explores:
1)buying out wolski to save $3.33 mil
2)buying out avery to save $1.3 mil
3)dumping EC to save $925k
4)dumping MZA to save $1.75 mil
how does that make any sense? he can fairly easily clear $7.3 mil in cap space by unloading 4 non-core, 'place holders', but no instead he is going to dump a leader and heart and soul guy to clear $4 mil? make zero sense.
Sullivan would fit best with AA/Cally, considering that 1st line needs Dubinsky, as without him, their forecheck and puck control would be easily stagnated by any competent NHL defense, but either way, it's an extremely low risk, potentially high reward signing.
