Free Agent Frenzy - July 1st 2011 (READ THE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES)

We'll be doing things a little bit different this year.

Here are the "rules":
  • Most, if not all, Free Agency related discussions will be done in this thread. This includes discussions regarding around the league rumors (ONLY FROM VALID/CREDIBLE SOURCES), signings, trades (????), etc.
  • If you wish to discuss rumors from non-credible sources (censored links, hearsay, random twitter accounts, etc) then please do so in the "Rumors From Non-Credible Sources" thread. However, this thread WILL be closed at the end of the day. It is a ONE-DAY exception since HFBoards doesn't normally allow these type of rumors.
  • ALL Habs signings/trades will have their own INDIVIDUAL threads.
  • The "Off Season Thread" as well as the "Out of Town Thread" will be closed for the day.
  • THIS post will be updated throughout the day with any signings/trades that happen.

No, he's been taken to arbitration, same as Parise.

No no according to some of our great fans, our owner wants to save some money..
He was cheap enough to pay half a billion dollars to purchase the club, but now he wants to save a couple millions.

Factoring in the back-up, Gorges and White it comes to about 9 million for 2 roster spaces.

I'm thinking that Wisniewski not signing in Columbus so far is a pretty good indicator that he was never going to sign before seeing what was available July 1. This is also why his rights didn't return as much as Ehrhoff's did.

I'm going to assume that we won't be able to trade gomez or sign Richards. If that's the case, I would go after talbot/rupp or Fleischmann.

Fleischmann is a legit top 6 guy if he stays healthy. He's a got a wicked wrist shot.

The Habs will do something, but there's only so many worthwhile players to throw money at.

The Habs have no obvious holes (except backup goalie, but that's trivial) so they're really only looking for upgrades.

At this point Roke's idea of overpaying on one-year deals to build an elite third line is looking good to me.

If the big names want too much money and too much term(4-5 year deals) I wouldn't be opposed with signing guys like Stewart and Langebrunner on 1 year deals at 2.5-3 each. Better to not get into bad deals...like 3-4 years for Jovanovski. I might overpay a bit for a guy like Rupp who is tough and can play...3 years 3.5-4 mil.

Stewart's not getting 1 year. He got close to 40 points and is 26 years old. You can be sure quite a few teams are looking into a young bottom 6/top 9 (at best) 230 lbs winger who can skate.

I'd love to have him for 2 years at 4M$, but it's likely he'll get something like 3 years at 7.5M$ in this market, if not more.
