To

Wojtek Wolski (1 yr @ $3.8M; RFA in 2012)
2012 5th Round Draft Pick

To

2012 4th Round Draft Pick

Basically just a salary dump. Wolski is a relatively useful player, but the Rangers don't really have the room for a player of his ilk in their lineup.

Why not just buy him out if you can't get anything substantial for him?

Signed,

Someone Who Still Believes Wolski Can Be An Asset For The Rangers

As a Rags fan I'm not really a fan of this. If Wolski's skating improves at the same rate Boyle's did after a summer with Underhill, he's going to be much more valuable. Plus, he's still just an RFA, he's worth more than a 5th->4th.

Also.. with the Drury buyout.. we really don't need the cap space, and we have no talent at LW.

Why would u give up a pick (granted you get to move up ONE round) to get rid of a player, especially one of his potential? I understand ranger fans want to get rid of him, but it's not exactly like theres a superstar winger waiting in the wings to replace him, and correct me if i'm wrong but you dont really have a nhl ready winger in ur system that can contribute more than him this season. why not just let him play and hope for a good year out of him?

Well, they don't really need him—he put up less than 40 points less year, and when he isn't putting up points, he just doesn't do much of anything. He's already in Tortorella's doghouse, so I don't see him getting prime ice time anytime soon, and he just doesn't have the intensity to be a Ranger, as the team is currently constructed. If he goes to Florida, he could probably put up 45-55 points with prime ice-time, ice time he would not get under Tortorella.

Also, the Rangers have 22 year old Carl Hagelin out of Michigan, who most definitely could play in at least a third line role next season, on all accounts. They could also re-sign Prospal, or go after a veteran UFA such as Andrew Brunette, Steve Sullivan, etc.
