Even if we signed Brad Richards, we wouldn't lose DD.

We would trade Stoll away and plug in Loktionov.

I've got a feeling it's gonna be Upshall that Dean signs for that 2nd line spot. He just seems like the perfect Lombardi type player. Only 27, likes to play the hard nose game, and was a former Flyer. I wouldn't be upset with signing Upshall at all. Potted 22 goals last season and was on pace for 30 goals 2 seasons ago. A line of Upshall/Richards/Brown would be nice.

I agree that we sign Upshall. He also lives in Huntington Beach I believe. Although if we were to sign him I would hope it would be as the 3rd line RW. He's more of a 3rd liner than a 2nd liner. Leino would be solid as the #2 LW.

If we were to sign Leino and Upshall I would give DL an A for this offseason. Upshall also pretty much replaces Simmonds point-wise, and he isnt afraid to fight/throw his body around. Oh, and he played for Phili . I think we will only sign 1 player though.

In a perfect world...

i like this Cook, that would be a very good line-up night in-night out. if Deano could nab those two and get DD signed today would be an absolute great day. coupled with last weeks trade i would say also that DL's offseason was an A. the Kings overall in the offseason move from a second tier team, to a one of the elite teams in the NHL.

I LOL'd at the thought of Loktionov being the shut down center on third line under TM. Seriously?

I wonder if TM changes things up though, and we don't have a "traditional" third line. I wouldn't mind having a scoring 3rd line that could pot 45-50 goals.

Having Kopitar and Richards is key for this strategy. Murray likes to match up Big on Big, so Kopitar typically gets Thorton/Getzlaf. Richards should be able to handle anyone's 2nd line Center. There's no real concern defensively with Lokti matching up with another 3rd line C, as they usually suck offensively.

With all that being said, Stoll is getting 3rd line minutes pretty much guaranteed.

Kopi and Richards s 1a-1b is powerful because it gives 2 legit offensive threats, but also gives the team 2 shutdown centers.

Let's hope that Buffalo signs Richards since this will put them over the cap limit with only 18 players under contract. Then they can trade Vanek to LA for Stoll+ prospects/picks:

Depends on if Martinez is re-signed and how they do in camp. Voynov will be given a shot in camp to win a spot. Hickey and Muzzin are also in the mix.

If he has a good camp, can show that he can move the puck at an NHL level, and isn't as bad defensively as Ran_y Jones, then yes. We need a 3rd PMD and I think he brings it the best for us. Really I think the #6 job is up between him and Martinez and thats it.

We're obviously quite content with our top six forwards, how do we feel about our bottom six?

Basically we got (just as an example):

Clifford-Stoll-Parse
Richardson-Lewis-Westgarth
Fraser

We know that Murray will likely play Westgarth for at least 50 games. I guess Loktionov could be in there somewhere as well, or some other Manchester kid. Not a lot of size, not a lot of grit, not a lot of scoring in my opinion.

Compare it to:

Ponikarovsky-Handzus-Simmonds
Clifford-Lewis-Westgarth
Richardson

from last season.. I definitely think we took a hit in the bottom six. I wouldn't change anything obviously, our team overall is clearly better, but I think we might need a boost in bottom six size/grit/scoring. Easier said than done, obviously. How do you feel about it? Confident?

Anyone still out there who could provide that boost?

Miettinen would fit nicely on the 3rd line. Not saying we'd absolutely need to do that move, but he would fill that missing 3rd line role nicely.
