He's coming off his best season since 06-07, and hitting a weak FA market as a 50 point forward. 50 point forwards have been commanding upwards of $4m. I would doubt he gets that much due to his age, still he may very well get a raise.

Just thought I'd mention that every time I see this thread title, I see "Cote in Flyers' stocking?".

Just putting that out there.

2 years, $5M. At most.

With a weak market, there is at least a 95% chance he gets a raise. I don't want that to be us.

I'd rather go into the season with what we have now than give someone a stupid contract. The only forward worth over $3.5M is Brad Richards.

If I remember correctly, one of his (many) issues in Edmonton was the fact that he was playing LW and is much more comfortable on the RW

Also, why does everyone keep putting Simmonds on the LW (not directed at you specifially), I thought he was a RW??? And he certainly is more than a 4th line player...

Yeah, I think it's safe to say we all got that one wrong. Jebus, I'm glad that's not us. Jagr @ $3.3 million/1 year >>>>>> Cole @ $4.5 million/4 years.

If Cole plays like he can, he is precisely the kind of player the Canadiens have lacked on wing. Hopefully for them he can keep it for four years.
