Who needs 2nd and 3rd round picks ?

How does Toronto do so well... and Winnipeg, but Ottawa does bad ?

Exactly. Not to mention that the trade exploded the myth that Gauthier and Timmins advance all the time about picking the best player available. Were that truelly the case they would have used the 3rd round pick on the BPA or they would have tried to trade up to the 2nd round, but not down to the 4th.

That is some awful logic........

Clearly PG/Timmins felt the players that were, in THEIR opinion. the BPA in the third round would still be available in the 4th.

Are you actually trying to say that they were intentionally passing on superior talent to address organisational needs in middle and late rounds.......

Then you pick another 3rd rounder because they still had their own 4th round pick without having to trade down. So they would have had a 3rd and the player they wanted as a 4th. That's better than three 4th picks.
But i know know you won't agree because Gauthier et. al. are GODS and can do no wrong. After all just look at how many Cups the Sens won with a stacked team...

If he's that good (and let's not forget we're talking 3rd & 4th round here) you use your 3rd round pick to grab him. That way you don't lose him to another team. If twenty more selections happen and your guy still doesn't go then either you are making a mistake or you have the best scouting staff in the league by far.

You just don't get it (sigh).......

Three 4th rounders are better than a 3rd and a 4th when you believe that the player you are targeting with your 3rd pick will still be available in the 4th.

PG/Timmins by your own admission have stated that they always take the BPA, which makes it astounding that this is even being discussed.

There are those who believe that Morrison, Elvis and Cobain are having a jam session in an uderground alien containment bunker......see what I did there....

HF COMMENTS: To not at least give them an A would be considered robbery.
Brendl can be a possible franchise player, and Lundmark was surprisingly
available at the #9 spot when they picked again. They did not lose much in
the Tampa deal for Brendl, as they dealt Sundstrom and Cloutier. Cloutier
is considered a top goalie prospect but with Holmqvist playing well in
their system, and the recent pick of Johan Asplund, they will have no
problem filling the pipes in New York down the road. Inman was another
great pick by them, and the only rason they dont get an A+ is beacause
there late round picks are pretty much fillers.

Unless he owns a fully functional magic ball I doubt he does. He`s more informed than the vast majority of fans and has assuredly (I hope) seen the players in the top2 round play more than anyone here did. What about the other rounds tho? He relies on scouting reports like everyone else...

His evaluation of Habs drafting remains based on other peoples scouting, on personal assumptions not based on facts and is ultimately an opinion. Later rounds are tricky since we can`t really say a guy is a complete steal with certainty. If that were the case, they would have been picked earlier.

Nobody knew about Datsyuk when he was drafted, same with Markov...

Woah how many NHL games in that A graded prospect crops? Probably not many... And Pavel Brendl : cant go wrong with a franchise player like that
