Maxime Talbot sucks.

Erik Cole doesn't do well outside of Carolina

American, small, right handed shot, good at faceoffs, has leadership capabilities.

Yeah, you know, Chris Drury.

I actually, really did to this.

Yeah, you're probably right, no other team is like Carolina, and any other team than Carolina, are ALL like Edmonton. ONE season of 61 games with ONE other team is really indicative of what would happen to him if he played with any other team, which he never did, outside that ONE season with Edmonton.

BTW, PPG-wise, Cole had his worst season WITH Carolina.

Oh yeah, and I hadn't noticed (thx Subbanged) you also wrote that he's small

again.

The year he got hurt ? If we signed him to a fair deal, welcome aboard, but I doubt it's going to happen. This year's ufa class sucks, so he will get overpaid.

The Habs will sign UFA Benoit Pouliot (at a reduced salary).

Erik Cole leads this summer's UFA class in hits, as he was 7th in the league among all players last year with 225 hits.

Yeah, I re-read my post and saw how that mistake could be made. My bad.

I don't want Cole if it costs us 5 mill a year... I doubt anyone else does.

He becomes more attractive to my eyes.

But there are a few things holding me back from jumping into the Cole bandwagon:

1) In this UFA batch, Cole is gonna get heavily overpaid.
2) Injury prone
3) Consistency issues

I have a feeling the Habs will try to make a trade for a top-6 winger, instead of spending money on this small, weak and probably costly crop of free agents.

I hope so, I'd love to get a guy like Umberger.

Langenbrunner, Fedotenko, Leino, Talbot, Belanger.

I'm sure one of those 5 will sign with us today.

The only one that could is Talbot. Well maybe Leino.

But PG will not touch the other 3 for sure.

Langenbrunner would be a very good fit and the type of guy the Habs usually go after...he is a character guy and versatile player.

Pierre Macguire was pretty clear that langenbrunner would be a terrible fit in Montreal. I'm inclined to agree with him on that one. We have a great core right now, all we need IMO is some more ancillary help with scoring.

There were questions about his character last season. Look how well the Devils did when they got rid of him and how poorly Dallas did since they traded for him. Obviously both can be coincidences but he's clearly regressed. I could still see the Habs wanting him because of the RH, American, ex-Devil forward criteria he fits.

I wouldn't mind JovoCop. Biggest problem with him is he's 35. But he reminds me of Sheldon Souray in the sense that he doesn't fight often, but when he does, watch the hell out.

Why would he not fit?

Pierre McGwire is an idiot.

We need a guy that can put up 50 ppoints and also do the dirty work in the corners and in front of the net.

Mark my words Langebrunner will be one of the great values this UFA season unless he gets a crazy deal like 3 years at 13-14 mil. For 1-2 years at 3-3.5/year I sign him in a heartbeat and stick him on RW with Cammy and Plekanec.

There's a reason why McGuire is in front of the camera instead of the front office of a NHL team.

I'd go for :
- Richards...front loaded contrat with about a 6-7M cap hit
- Leino/Cole/Gagne at around 3,5M per
- Kaberle at a reasonable price..around 4M. (even though lots of people dont like him)

If everything works like planned, they PG would shop/trade Gomez. If not successful, bury him in the AHL at the beginning of the season.
