He should be. He's in an organization where he will be given the opportunity to develop and get a shot with the team if he earns it. Not to mention he is surrounded by plenty of fellow Americans.

McIlrath looks like a giant 12- year old. His playoff beard may rival Crosby's in awfulness someday

May be I'm old school but I just can't see anything other than being totally jazzed to have the Rangers pick you. Not that everyone can handle it. Which is why I think it has to be one of the first questions they would ask when they sit you down.

He's probably just a tough, hard assed kid who's TCB when he's on the job. I love it.

early scrimmage today, already 7-4 or so

Thomas scored again. Hagelin, Fasth, and Lindberg also scored I think

Good to see the budding bromance progressing.

NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
McIlrath stands up for Thomas, but takes penalty for whacking Pashnin, who then scores on chase shot.

McIlrath finishes rush with one handed poke-in. Really has improved

NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
McIlrath smiles after scoring off rush. He's had an excellent week.

A chase shot is not a penalty shot. A chase shot is how they often substitute for penalties in scrimmages. A guy starts with the puck at the red line on a break away, but the other team sends a guy after him a second or two later to add back checking pressure.

That is how they do it in a continuous play scrimmage. Guy takes the puck and gets chased down the ice towards to goaltender to handle rebounds.

That's just the way he is.

Look at his interviews while he was at USNTDP, he's just stoic.

Funny thing, he is comparable in his playing style to Kesler, and Kesler was also accused of having no personality for a long time. Just felt that was ironic.

Miller is a good kid. He is professional. He said he's honored to wear our jersey. So I wouldn't worry about his stoic outer appearance.

yeah, usually you have 1 guy start at the red line, and the guy who takes the penalty starts at the blueline behind him, and on the whistle they both go for it. its actually a pretty cool way to do penalties. though i wouldnt want it in the NHL.

No. 1 pick JT Miller, likely headed to U of North Dakota, says he lost 10 pounds skating with Thomas, Bourque. "Couldn't catch up to them."

I hope you do get a chance to come out this way for a Sioux hockey game. Ralph Engelstad Arena is one of the finest hockey facilities in the world and an excellent place to watch a hockey game.

The 2011-2012 schedule hasn't officially been released, but single game tickets will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:00 AM CST. Denver, Wisconsin and Minnesota are the big rivalry series, but you would have a good time at any series.

We are looking forward to watching JT Miller (and Rocco Grimaldi) this fall. The Sioux have a lot of freshmen coming in so the first couple of months could be tough, but once everyone gets going, it should be a fun team to watch.

I'm really excited about Thomas. I think he can be a REAL 2nd round steal.

And good to see how good McIlrath looks.

The prospect camps have been very important. Just look at how Thomas and McIlrath hit the ground running in this year's camp. It puts into perspective what to expect, and what they have to do to get better.

Yeah, but they need to have a good prospects camp, and then a good training camp to show they've really improved

Be sure to disregard this guys, it's just the NYR trying to make us think McIlrath isn't a bust.
