I think Patrick Eaves might be a reasonable comparable. Higgins is obviously a little better but Eaves only makes $1.2, granted he's likely got 1 year more of term. I don't think $1.7-$2m is really out of line for him. Anything above $2.25 isn't a "value" signing IMO.

I really don't see where Samuelsson fits on this team.

Just waiting for Gallagher to pitch a fit and throw down the gauntlet with Bob again. He got pistolwhipped (verbally) pretty badly last go round.

Considering he plays the RW and Higgins the LW (or at least prefers it), I would say he fits on the 2nd line RW for now.

He's pretty much the only local guy that breaks anything. But it's all good...thank God for twitter.

at 2.5 he fits. Try finding a guy who could give us 25 goals/50 points next year for less than 2.5 in this market. Who would not take Sammy on a 1 yr 2.5 million deal right now if he was a free agent? He gives us depth, offensive depth that we need.
I consider last year a write off due to injury, yet he still managed to give us 50 points. He's a guy who's going to hit double digits in points in long playoff run. After the Sedins, Kesler, and Burrows we didn't have any of those guys. Boston did.

Our media are the laziest sack of ***** there are. The best ones are the up and coming ones that are trying to make a name for themselves. That said, Canucks are notorious for trying to keep things quiet. Most of our local reports won't have too many sources outside of the city. National media have the advantage there.

The problem is that they don't work to get those sources. Player agents are exceptionally talkative for one. The peak of research for them is to call the Canucks and ask if something happened or to ask Gillis directly thinking he will actually tell them.

Higgins is great along the boards and corners. Was very physical in the playoffs. People complaining about his production need to look at other players production ES. He does not take much pp time. He also is good on faceoffs, block shots, does not take penalties. Really what more do you want from a 3rd line player. Need to spend money somewhere players like Higgins and Hansen are musts as we saw in the playoffs.

Really hope we sign we him. I was torn between keeping Torres or Higgins. While Torres brings the physical element, Higgins is more versatile.

Indeed. The market has gone up. Keeping our talent with a raise is what Gillis has to do today or people will bolt to teams paying to reach the floor.

Higgins is such a good player until he gets within 5 feet of the net. Maybe the canucks can work him with the skills coach because he could easily be a 25 goal scorer if he could finish some of the scoring chances he generates with his speed and hard work.

You know...I wonder how good our skills coach is, or the effectiveness of one.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Murph. He seems to respond to people on twitter and by far the most inside track amongst Vancouver media.

Well, once Tony wakes up, has brunch and gets going this morning, he's going to be furious. Furious!

I'd rather have one than not have one. Let's put it that way. If he can improve a player even 2% it's worth it. Eventually all these things that add 2% increase to a players effectiveness add up and you see significant growth in player performance.

Kevin Allen (USA Today) just tweeted that Higgins is done for 2 x 1.9M. That would be great news if confirmed!

edit: confirmed by Bob McKenzie.

Fair deal. He probably would have gotten more if he tested FA. Happy to have him back - he's a quality player that can play multiple roles.

Wow...if it's $1.9m per year, colour me tremendously impressed. That would be wicked value.

Not a bad cap hit for a guy who put up 28 points in 62 games last season.
