Would've preferred to have kept Auld honestly.

We are not Toronto, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Boston or Washington.

We are the Montreal Canadiens and we have needs that include making this team tougher on the bottom 6. Not pluggers, but guys who can protect the top 6 players.

The Habs signed a backup for about 1 million, as predicted.

Meh. Budaj is about right for the role. No impact on other Habs targets; this move was expected.

thus far we have confirmation that Gauthier didn't even talk to Wisniewski after the season, he ends up signing a contract we easily could have afforded, meanwhile the teams around us are all improving, except for Pittsburgh, and we still have nothing to show except 14 million in cap space. Looks like cost cutting mode to me. We should have known the Molsons would cheap out again.

I think Budaj is better than Auld. He's capable of decent play, just not for long stretches.

Budaj is basically Auld. I'm relieved that at least we picked up a legitimate NHL'er to do the job.

I'm surprised Budaj accepted being a back up goalie.

UGH.
I don't hate the deal, but he struggled last year as a starter, though their defense sucked before they added Johnson.

Did TSN bash the Budaj signing because he is... too good to be a backup?

Now they're just making stuff up.

You have to think some of the "bigger name" backups out there didn't like the idea of not playing too much.

Still, I think Auld was game - would rather have kept him.

Budaj is better than Auld.
It's just.. I expected a vet goalie to be Price's back up.

same type of signing as auld as last year. Considering our success last year in goals, price + experienced goaltender with no drive to steal first; seems logical to me.

There were better candidates...I would have picked Joey McDonald ahead of him....but he's not amongst the worst. Let just say that I hated the Auld signing last year....I'm not hating this move...but he was not in my top 5 as far as goalies are concerned.
