garon was signed for the same amount in TB. And he is twice the goalie that Budaj is...

Sad ! Frustrating ! Awful.

I think we should cut this guy a break, he was playing on the Avalanche after all, a team that had to desperately acquire Ryan O'byrne to shore up it's defense.

I'm wondering why they didn't just give this deal to Auld though.

Whatever, he'll play 10 games and be as good as Auld.

Budaj is not as bad as everyone says... its just a sideways move. Auld isn't an incredible goaltender. Budaj can go on streaks much like Auld... its what you need in a backup goalie.

When we traded Theodore, we were the ones saying how awful Jose actually is, and he turned out.. to be pretty awful for Colorado. Bad exemple.

Edit: but he did picked it up later on in his career and now it looks like he'll be a starter next year! And there is no way Budaj was as bad as Theo was in his last days with us...

Seriously..we're talking about a guy who will play 15 games at the most. Auld wasn't better.

Some of your guys are truly ridiculous! You'd pick Boucher before him??? What are you smoking, guy? Auld was a respectable backup but he isn't really a starter. Budaj has at least been a starter before...and for a lousy defensive team in front of him.....with a half decent defence in front of him, he'll make a good backup. Did you all see Craig Anderson's numbers before he went to Ottawa? Not many would say he's a lousy goaltender but backstopping that team has been a challenge. Budaj will be fine....for that contract...and he'll play a few more games than Auld.

Decent signing, but it doesn't really matter, you could have a scarecrow as the backup to our superstar Carey Price
.895 SV%, 3.20 GAA last year. Career? .902 SV%, 2.83 GAA.

Auld? Career? .905 SV%, 2.77 GAA.

Don't see how Budaj is any better...

Not one of the guys I was hoping for but it's just the backup. Looking at his stats his best year was numbers wise the one where he played only 15 games, which is what he should play at most if Carey stays healthy.

I think its a good deal. Auld was a good teammate but if Price got hurt we were done last year. With Bud as back up we have someone who can play more and if Price goes down for a week or 2 he can fill in better then Auld

At least, if it was a two-way contract, we could dump him to Hamilton.

You guys do realize he was part of an awful Avs team, right? Give the guy a break. Welcome to the Club Budaj.

Not a huge fan, liked Auld, but in the big scheme of things, if Price stays healthy, this is a non issue.

I don't see the point of "loving" or "hating" such a move, it's minor, whether he is an upgrade over Auld will be seen this year as the Habs are a different team than Colorado was and it might suit him better. As long as he comes here as a good team player, with a good attitude, accepts his backup role well and plays to a 2.5 GAA when put in nets, I am satisfied.

I don't understand why we are paying him that much. Wasn't Auld making less than 1M?

Management just has a simple message for us:

YOU WILL BOW DOWN TO PRICE AND ADORE HIM LIKE SUPERSTAR HE IS OR EMBRACE THE ALTERNATIVE CRAPPY BACKUP GOALILE.

this really helps our lack of size, scoring and grit up front. Way to go PG!
