With the exception of Kevin Bieksa...this is the first time since living in Vancouver my whole life (30 years) that I am confident I could take any member of the team in a bar fight.

I was hoping they'd go younger and bigger but Higgins is a huge question mark with a great opportunity.

Every single player on that team would roll you. Including the Sedins.

That's great, I wasn't sure if fighting equated to toughness, but you cleared that up for me. Thanx.

I'm starting to worry. Higgins couldn't produce with Kesler as his center, how is he going to produce with Manny? Higgins/Manny/Hansen is a black hole for offense.

Doubtful.

I've got at least ten pounds on Brad Marchand, and my sister could take Mason Raymond.

Its only a couple hours in. I am confident that Mike Gillis, unlike most fans on this board, are aware of the size, physicality needs on the Canucks, and will address it.

Yeah right...

Don't expect to see his playoff "physicality" during the regular season.

So is Samuelsson. He plays more like a North American than a Swede.

Fortunately for us, the Stanley Cup isn't awarded in the regular season.

I like Samuelsson, but he is clearly on the downside of his career. He'll be 35 at Xmas next year.

Unfortunately for us it isn't rewarded after 2 games in the final either.

Team is far from complete.

At the moment

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
? - Kesler - Sammy
Raymond - Malhotra - Higgins
? - Lapierre - Hansen

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - ?
Alberts - Salo

that's I see it. I think Ballard will be moved as soon as we pick up a defenceman to complement Edler.

And we will see what types of players Gillis gets to fill in those holes, wouldn't mind a Chris Neil type on the 4th line.

Supposedly Edmonton fans all hate him.

Still need a good winger to play with Kesler, but I'm happy about this signing.

Not quite right

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - Sammy
Higgins - Malhotra - Hansen
? - Lapierre - Oreskovich

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Salo
Ballard - Tanev
Rome - Alberts

If Hansen and Oreskovich sign for $2.25M combined, there's room for a 2nd line left wing to be brought in which pushes Raymond to 3rd line and Higgins to 4th line (with someone cheap as the 13th forward).

Either way, to be honest. I'll wait until free agency plays itself out a bit more though, I trust Gillis I just am not a fan in general of players like Higgins. If you're a winger and you can't really score consistently or can't really hit people consistently then I generally won't be a fan. Sedin, Burrows, Hansen, Samuelsson all have a defined role as top nine wingers because they can do one of those things. Not really sure what Higgins does or what people saw in him to get so excited.

Lame! I do not want Raymond or Higgins in the top six.

If Hansen is $1.5M and Oreskovich is $625,000, then there's $4.34M left to sign a new winger and a 13th forward. Maybe Cole, Fleischmann or Gagne take a little less to go with a contender, and Glass at the league minimum?

+ 2.55m on LTIR from Raymond. Plenty of room. And Tanev likely won't start with the big club since he's waiver exempt.

I was just looking at a filled out roster (23 man) with 8 defencemen since I assumed Gillis would put the best team together, rather than send Tanev to the AHL because he can. Seems more like the Gillis MO. Raymond LTIR would just put someone else on the 3rd or 4th line, or even just be a callup 13th forward.

Great value if he's on the 3rd line and can move around.

Both second line wingers failed to score 20 goals this year.

Poor Ryan Kesler.

You must have missed the part where Higgins played through a broken ankle..

If you're going to assume Samuelsson will be injured again all year, you'll have trouble making a competent team with the Canucks' roster. If you assume he'll bounce back to a 25 goal scorer at least (pretty likely IMO), then XXXXX - Kesler - Samuelsson is a very solid 2nd line.
