Good depth guy for $1m, don't see what people are complaining about, it is just 1 year.

When Detroit faced Columbus a few years ago, he made a bunch of comments about how much he hated Mike Babcock.

I think the quote was "hes the stupidest player ive ever coached" from Babcock.

and now, we sign him....

Low risk, high reward signing for the Red Wings. That low of a price isn't a huge risk at all.

This guy looks like IR time waiting to happen. I don't like it given who they could have picked up.

I think the Wings will sign Ryan Suter next season. This year they will struggle, but next season will be good for them.

What a successful morning for Holland.

He was able to land prime FA Mike Commadore and oh so glad he locked up our 13th forward in Drew Miller.

What a great July 1st so far.

This is great news for Mike Commodore, who got a raw deal with Columbus. I'm pulling for him to turn his career around and show what he's worth in the playoffs.

He'll be good for one season. Then he'll suck and move on.

OH, haha, I get it, NO D! Right, who won the Norris trophy last year?

Commodore is this year's version of Salei and Lilja and that type of defenseman the Wings have brought in as the #6/7/8 guy. If the Wings didn't sign a guy like Commodore, Doug Janik would have been the #6/7 type of guy... They aren't signing Commodore to play 20-some minutes a night and make a huge impact. They want someone solid on the bottom pair who can play some PK minutes, block shots, etc... If he sucks, he will be benched, waived, replaced by Brendan Smith, whatever.

This is the kind of signing Detroit makes. A player who is under the radar, he goes to Detroit and becomes really good. I expect that to happen with Commodore.

Looks great on paper. Hope it works in real life as well.
Am I totally off saying he can be used at 2nd PK unit?

I love this deal for Detroit, as a Wings fan. Great #6/7 guy looking to rebound.

He's depth insurance, that's all. 1M with the new cap is more like .8M a few years ago. About what you would expect for a #6/7/8 D-man.

I would have liked to see Babchuk instead of Commodore.

Be honest, outside of Lidstrom, Kronwall and Stuart, the defense looks grim.

That's a bit harsh. Right now we're back at square one. Still $10M cap space. Definitely out of contention with current roster though.

“Mike Babcock was without a doubt an obstacle in my career,” said Commodore of the coach who traded him from Anaheim to Calgary in 2003. “I wanted to prove him wrong, I’m not going to lie. I used him as big-time motivation. I thought he put his best foot forward to bury me.”

Been laughing all morning. We get Wisniewski, Wings get Commie.

Meh, low risk, low reward. Better to grab a cheap bottom pairing guy than spend 3+ mill a year on one.
