Might not be a bad idea - "something to prove" Commie is better than "the other 97 percent of the time" Commie.

Yeah, I can't imagine effort will be a problem for him this season. He has plenty of motivation.

Babcock to Lidstrom: "Nik, since this is your last year, would you mind playing 40 minutes a game?"

OMFG. I have been laughing all morning over this one.

Quote:
“Mike Babcock was without a doubt an obstacle in my career,” said Commodore of the coach who traded him from Anaheim to Calgary in 2003. “I wanted to prove him wrong, I’m not going to lie. I used him as big-time motivation. I thought he put his best foot forward to bury me.”

So Commodore got bought out without any official post on CBJ's official website, Puck-rakers, HFboards, etc?

I knew it was going to happen, but I guessed I just completely missed it.

Agree, I know he was put through waivers again to facilitate the buyout but never saw anything about officially buying him out.

Glad you all are chuckling over this!! I'm kinda not...because...

I see a guy hustling, busy on his man and Methot wide open, leaving the slot area open to allow the goal against. Guess it's just me...LOL I will miss Big Red. I will. I wish him well.

Commodore now has motive and ample oppurtunities for payback on the CBJ organization.

I can only wonder if he sees the ice in Detroit. Babcock will not tolerate out of shape players....

One year for $1mil? Hate to say it, but this is a decent move for the Wings.

I always liked Commie even before he came to the CBJ, and was stoked that we got him but hated the cost and it didn't work out. Good luck to him.

Will Commodore be arrested when Detroit comes to Columbus? I hear there's a warrant out for his arrest for Grand Theft.... On the order of several million dollars...

I'm in the "I wouldn't laugh too much camp" too. He's got a track record of being useful for about a year while he is motivated. I'm going to guess that he's motivated.
I'm also guessing that the CBJ are probably more of a motivator/villain to him these days than Babcock is.

It wouldn't shock me if he logs a respectable season for the Wings.

Good times.

Definitely some winners when re-reading that oldie but goody. Fair amount of hopeful realism thought too, I think. Very appropriate skepticism.

I've seen that "uglier than homemade soup" line in some recent debates and it reminds me that I don't quite get it. Is homemade soup ugglier than non-homemade soup? Soup seems to be soup to me.

Its very low risk on Detroits part. 1 million in the grand scheme is nothing. Still at anyone signing Commodore.

I can only hope that Commodore hangs out with every young player on Detroit before he gets shipped down to the AHL.
