I really hope Gillis doesn't consider this a 2nd line solution.

Yuck. Do not want. That said, GMMG has done enough over the years to give him the benefit of the doubt... but still..... MEH.

Sturm is only 33, should have plenty of gas in the tank.
a little bit of an overpayment, but he should fit nicely in that 3rd line role with Manny and Hansen.

Thinking about it more, $2.25M is too much. If he signed on a cheap deal, I wouldn't have minded.

We will wait and see about this one...he's battling out 2nd/3rd line duty.
Ugh, unless Gagne was asking for too much

Typical Gillis signing. Very similar to both Malhotra and Torres. I'd rather have Sturm at that price than a very overpayed Leino.
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Higgins
Sturm-Malhotra-Samuelsson
Oreskovich-Lapierre-(Hansen?)
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Edler-Salo
Ballard-Tanev/Alberts
Luongo
Schneider
Not a bad lineup. I still hope Gillis trades for another winger. If he does and everyone's healthy, we'll have the deepest group of forwards in the NHL, by far.

Oh god, stupid moneypuck move. Sturm is done , but it seems Gillis wasn't going to fill the cap anyway so with one year term doesn't really bring the team down.

Is Nonis back in charge of this team? How Nonis-esque.
Terrible signing at first glance....deflating for the team....

Brutal waste of cap space considering a player like Steve Sullivan signed for even less. Why not go after a player like Chuck Kobasew, local kid who could use a change of scenery.

A 33 year old declining, injury prone speedster that is a poor playoff performer for 2.25M. God I wish we signed Brunette.

the key here is term.... 1 year deal. low risk, with some reward potential. guys like Leino, Gagne, and Cole are all commanding 4 years with 4.5 million plus cap hits... Sturm gives us some flexibility on our second line. Similar to the Higgins/Torres/Manny signings last year, a bit of a reclamation project by Gillis, and I'm optimistic it will work out well for the Canucks.

If he performs after major knee surgery, he'll put up more or less the same points as those guys. Don't like this signing, but I didn't like the Samuelsson signing either at the time.

If he is healthy and can revert back to his old form this could be a great moneypuck type move.
Within our cap structure we just can't afford to match a lot of the ridiculous deals that have been thrown around today.
edit: He's been a 20 goal scorer his entire career until injuries hit. He definitely was better than Raymond/Samuelsson/Higgins. The bigger question is whether he still is.
