I'm personally enthusiastic to have another soldier for the playoffs. While Strum isn't what I was looking for per se, you can't deny he would've been an asset in the playoffs. And that's really all I see this signing as, post-season help. I'm hoping this won't be the only move we make this post season.
Sturm was forced to undergo surgery to repair his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the 2008–09 NHL season. He played in just 19 games, scoring 7 goals.
Sturm injured his knee 21 seconds into Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, May 1, 2010, and did not return for the remainder of the playoffs. Sturm would not play nearly half of 2010-2011 season due to rehabbing offseason surgery.
Lets hope his joints are ok, his speed will be down from before obviously, so hopefully MG has checked into this at least a little bit.
A bit anticlimactic for this signing, all I hope is he stays healthy.
The price seems a bit high for someone who in reality is a third liner for us. Low risk on the one year and could turn out better than people think. Not an ideal signing but not a bad one either. Lighten up folks.
