going away from dealin picks

to stockpiling em. 1 1st in 12, maybe 3 2nds in 12,2 3rds in 12. in a much deeper draft. gives the team a lot of flexibility.

I have faith in Lavy. If anything I believe the room will be looser. Time will tell.

Does this finally sPell the end of Homer? Or when/if the season ends up with less than perfect results

If you think about it, the 2nd we just received could actually get us a better player than the 1st we gave up, because of how deep next seasons draft.

With all the moves Florida has made, that 2nd might not be as early as we think.

It was definitely a player-friendly day, with lots of cash tossed around at 2+-liner, role-players and depth. It helped that Florida had to spend its way to the floor, and Buffalo's new ownership definitely opened their vault. The Canadiens give Erik Cole $4.5 mil over 4 years. Roman Hamrlik gets $3.5 per over 2 years.

The Jagr deal looks much better through this lens. I'm okay with Lilja as a depth guy for fair money for a 6th-7th Dman. Talbot is a shocker, and I'm surprised, too, that Holmgren deals Versteeg away.

The big-money signings, to me, also put the Bryzgalov contract in a better light.

At what point do the Panthers have to choose if the 2nd is for 12 or 13?

Does this trade not bend the flyers over the barrel? Really what do we get, fla third in 2013(seriously) and a late third in 2012 for our 1st and 3rd. Smart!

I'm starting to think after a few wacky moves Andy Reid did in the offseason he got a hunger for it. And since there's a lockout in the NFL and NBA he needs to find a way to tinker with a team. Holmgren has been brainwashed by Reid!

I'm actually ok with this move depending on where the 2nd is. We got Steeg for a half year rental by moving down 10 to 15 slots in what will likely be a deeper draft.

If you pay attention, you'll notice it's been the same people doing the loving and hating pretty much all along. It's not like the entire board is a hivemind when it comes to the guy.

its like when supporting actors die in a movie or tv show.. that is what they are there for!

get mad when richards, carter or gagne are gone.
not when upshall, leino, versteeg leave.

I mean, I don't give a crap that he's gone. The only reason I wanted him to stick around was to see what he and Richards could do together healthy. That's not really a factor now.

I wanted to keep Steeger but not a bad return and hopefully it opens up the room for someone else.

Versteeg was redundant.

Needed the cap space and we got some picks.

Win/Win.

So we got him for the back half of last year by presumably moving up in next years third and out of the late first into the early second. That's not that bad, and definitely makes the deadline deal more palpable.

This move doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless there was a free agent out there the Flyers really had their sights set on. Looks like there may have been traction behind those Richards rumors.
