And, that's what Edmonton exactly needs.

Belanger is good and makes sense for the Oilers.

Eager, Barker and Hordichuk = castoffs that no one wants, will cause many multiple PPs for other teams.

I'm quite pleased with the Oilers moves today. Belanger is the exact player we have needed for 3 years now, I'm so happy to get him. Our D has improved and we've added grit that we really needed. You can call the Barker signing a bad one, but I have a feeling he can get back to form in Edmonton, just as Whitney did. Minnesota is a pretty bad fit for an offensive minded defenseman like Barker. Very happy with today.

Come on. I can understand Hordichuk (purely a depth signing) and Barker, as a reclamation project, on your castoff list, but Eager? Everyone would love the player they most hate on their team. Eager is the perfect fit for the Oilers. They need the lose cannon who can also play hockey.

Really glad to see the Oilers pick up Belanger. He came at a good price too.
Don't sugar coat it. I don't care, but he bashed the **** outta Winnipeg.

Great signing for Edmonton, although I'm surprised he went there given what he said about Winnipeg.

Very good addition on a sensible deal.

We get it you hate the Oilers.

I would be more concerned about 7uong8 to be honest. Your team will NEVER win a cup with that horrible choker and you have him for what another 10 years lol.

But grats on making it to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in franchise history lol.

Pretty good assessment. Nice value signing by Edmonton.

Oddly enough he signed the same contract(3/5.25) 4 years ago with the Wild, which was a very nice signing for us.

Surprising that the cap's increased so much, Belanger's continued solid play, yet can't get a raise. Really nice 3rd line center, questionable character.

Not really up on Belanger as a player, but what are these questionable character flaws that Belanger have? I've heard people say he wears his welcome out pretty fast.

Looking only at points that's a good deal for $1.75-million per.

Then you consider the faceoffs and defensive game and it becomes a great deal.

If the oilers were able to sign crosby to play for a buck fifty people would still bash the oilers

In LA I believe he complained publicly about his role(you'd have to ask a Kings fan). He also did this in the 09 offseason with the Wild, with a new regime and the addition of Kyle Brodziak. After the 09-10 season, our GM made remarks that our locker room needed stronger character, believed to be a shot at Belanger, a player he traded at the deadline. Signing John Madden that off-season only made it clearer that Belanger was a problem in our locker room(we did have an unstable rookie head coach though, and these issues did not seem apparent under Jacques Lemaire his first 2 seasons). He's also made questionable remarks in interviews at times. The contract/no contract issue with Washington last year is also an eyebrow raiser.

On the ice though, he's solid. I'd take him over our current 3rd line center Matt Cullen, who's making twice as much.

One of the few reasonable deals today. Belanger fits a need for Edmonton.

I don't get it, oilers picked up a few solid players today. eager and belanger are steals. the other guys are more filler but low risk. the 2 guys that matter signed for dirt cheap cap hits and for a few years.

Well, that's one good signing at least by the Oilers today. He's the one player picked up that will make an actual contribution for the team.
