Free Agent Frenzy 2011 - Part III (READ THE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES)

***GDT will remain open for the entire weekend.***

We'll be doing things a little bit different this year.

Here are the "rules":
  • Most, if not all, Free Agency related discussions will be done in this thread. This includes discussions regarding around the league rumors (ONLY FROM VALID/CREDIBLE SOURCES), signings, trades (????), etc.
  • If you wish to discuss rumors from non-credible sources (censored links, hearsay, random twitter accounts, etc) then please do so in the "Rumors From Non-Credible Sources" thread. However, this thread WILL be closed at the end of the day. It is a ONE-DAY exception since HFBoards doesn't normally allow these type of rumors.
  • ALL Habs signings/trades will have their own INDIVIDUAL threads.
  • The "Off Season Thread" as well as the "Out of Town Thread" will be closed for the day.
  • THIS post will be updated throughout the day with any signings/trades that happen.

1-U are probably right about the amount, but we overpay for Ufa everytimes
2- wrong... Boulton is a excellent 4th line player....
3-Nashville did use him in their top 6 last year...and they finnish ahead of Mtl in GA

We need some Toughness

what are palushaj's chances of making the team next year?

seems like a good worse case scenario if we dont sign anyone for our bottom 6

Hey guys,

So can we expect PG to be done?

Or can we realistically expect to sign Gagne or Konopka? Any rumors floating around that link MTL to those two?

Thanks,

Is it true that RDS is saying expect Simon Gagne to sign if so another solid move to bolster our forwards.

Why Gagné when we have this Top 9?

Cole - Plek - Cammy
MaxPax - Gomez - Gionta
Eller - DD - Kost

What we need is a bottom-6er to play with Moen and White/Darche

I think he had a bad year last year from all perspective....he is definitively talented and can kill you in so many ways....I would have taken a 1 year chance with him to be sure...

I doubt Eller will play the wing....he was far more effective as a center last year....and Martin stated that a few times at the end of the year....

'Cause if the idea is to have a better team, Eller is good at the Center position. And I believe, so is DD. Which means Gagné becomes automatically better than Eller and DD on your 3rd line. And plays significantly some top PK minutes which helps Pleks to concentrate on the offensive part of his game. Tell me how Gagné-Eller-Kosty is not a better line than Eller (on the wings where he struggles) - DD -Kosty.....

Put DD on the 4th with White and a tougher, speedier player than Moen who you will trade, make Darche your 13th forward and you're done.

Yup, plausible scenario....and I agree, Eller is clearly better at center....

I would take him at that rate as long as it's short term.

He'll get like 10 mil a year but it'll come out smelling good in a 4.5 mil cap hit...

Can't believe Leino signed for 4.5M...
Not only that, but I can't believe some people were saying we should be more like Buffalo.

Very satisfied with PG's acquisition thus far. We get the perfect player for our need, a big RW PF that scores most of his points at ES and was top 10 Forward in Hits last season.
I don't think anybody can say Gauthier doesn't have vision or can't identify our needs anymore. He certainly was spot on with that one.
I'm content with Budaj as well, I'm sure he'll be a great back up, better than Auld.

Hopefully it's not over. We still have some money and quite a few directions to possibly choose. We can go for a big move on D and try to get Kaberle here. That would be amazing imo. If not, we can try to get a bit more toughness with a guy like O'Brien. Or go for depth signings up front with Gagné or Stewart.
What's encouraging is that we have 8.3M available, so even after Gorges is re-signed we'll still have some to spend, and there's still some interesting players on the market.
